Starting my dread journey...

Introduce Yourself

Its going good! So far her friend has the hang of the TnR much better than I do. Although, it would be helpful if I didnt have to stop to tend to 5 littles all the time. :/.Ill get some 'during' pics asap.

General Talk

Trying to be gentle but its hard. I got alot of knots that just ripped out :(. But Im sure it looks like more than it is. I hope. I think I will go natural, my hair does knot up nicely on its own. Now I need to research natural :) soaringeagle said:
only advice is go slow only work on the last 1/8 inch
umm collect all the broken hair in a pile to show people just how much hairs broken from 1 single crochet session
keep resoaking in conditioner or olive oil be gentle
and
no need to wait start natural right away..wait at least a couple weeks to t&r if u decide to

umm
after u remove em
you'll have alotta conditioner/oil buildup use something like nutragena daily clarifying to remove all the buildup

I'm Doing It. I'm Taking Them Out..

General Talk

I decided to go ahead and attempt to remove my 9 day old crochet dreads. I thought and thought about it and my heart told me that I was cheating myself out of the journey that has become so important to me. I decided that if I cant give it my all, from day 1, then I shouldnt be doing it at all.So far, Ive gotten abou 8 out. All the front ones. Only 28 to go :/. It is not easy. Anyone have any tips to make it easier? Ive soaked in conditiner, used olive oil and brushing. I seem to be losing alot of hair, but Im not noticing any bald spots so that is good. :)My plan is to let my scalp rest a day ot 2, the start TnR or neglect, maybe a combo of the 2.I think this will be much more satisfying in the long run.BTW-Thanks Mama Christina for the 'listen to your heart advice'

I remember when I wanted these kind of. then i found this site, looked around for a good week or so. it totally changed my whole perspective on the look and process of dreading. I could never imagine having "perfect" fake dreads now.

Thanks. :)

I didnt like it at first. Now, I am getting used to it. The only drawback is trying to get them up and out of the way. The dont really do a pony tail at all. :./

Nicole's Dreadlock Timeline: Recovery From Crochet, Going Natural

Member Journals and Timelines

I got my Dreadlocks June 8th, 2010. I had them crocheted, only to find this website 4 days later. This is a timeline of my Dreadlocks. Recovering from crochet and going natural. They were only crocheted the initial time. I'm really hoping doing this timeline will help me resist the urge to take them all out and start over. I see a difference already, in the first week. I think.
This is Day 1. June 8th, 2010

2nd week, day 8. June 15th, 2010

Well, they are all finally out! 3 days and 7 hours later. Not fun. Anyways, my hair is now pretty much a tangly mess. We had to leave 3 of the crochet dreads in and 10 at about an inch because of the knotting. I was just losing way too much hair. :/
We did some separation after it dried, I slept on it and it knotted up again. And got all loopy. I'm hoping this is all normal or I may be starting from scratch with no hair :/

Ok. This is going totally natural. All the crochet are out.

Day 12

Day 20

ONE MONTH!! 30 DAYS!

44 Days. Tons of loopies andknots on the bottom layer and top, all in the back.

Day 52. Are all those knots underneath normal???

66 Days

Day 77

Day 93

Day 190ish (I'm losing track. lol...)
