Crisis! Missing my hair...

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I originally started dreading in December 2010. I have combed my hair about 5 times since then. In 15 days, my dreads will celebrate their first year of uninterrupted dreading.

What I'm trying to say is that you can comb them out, and then start dreading again if you regret getting rid of them. They are not one of those once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity things, and you can change your mind.

Ofc, I am always for people keeping their dreads, and I advise you to think it through, put down all the pro's and con's, and decide carefully; but it all comes down to this: it is your decision, and even if you do comb them out, and then go back to dreading later on, it is all about you. None of us can ever know exactly how you feel, and you have the right to decide when it is the right time for you to dread and stick with it.

If you don't have bangs, you could comb out a few in the front, sou you would have 'normal' and dreaded hair all at once.

how long do you take to wash your dreads?

General Talk

Well, it takes me about the same amount of time as it did pre-dreading. About 3 minutes. :D

I wet my hair, put the shampoo on, lather it up, rinse, and that's it.

It took me about 12 minutes when I was experimenting with BS, since I would let it sit for about 10 minutes to soak, but I had to give it up due to hard water.

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, just leave it. I have never heard of people having noshrinkage. It's all a part of the process. Some hairshrinksmore, some less, but it's all good. :)

washing hair

Dread Maintenance

I believe you should be OK for as long as your hair has enough time to dry. If it is damp most/all the time, it could develop mold.

Sore head?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

How were they put in?

Did the person use wax?

If yes, you should get rid of all the wax right away.

The scalp is probably just recovering, but generally, dreads are not supposed to hurt. The pain will pass. Just don't do anything else to them except for washing andoccasionally separating. Literally, nothing else. No wax, no maintenance.

Well, if they aren't trying to get together to make one big dread on your head, you should leave them as they are. Separating is only done to prevent congoing, that is, the situation getting out of hand and all dreads becoming one. When you feel some are coming together, you should separate them.

Using towels to dread

General Talk

Haha... Could be. But I think cotton is neutral, that is, does not create static electricity.

It could be useful because of it's texture.

Using towels to dread

MamaKittyLove, let me know how it went.

I'm kinda wondering if I really 'discovered' something, or it was just a coincidence. :D

Using towels to dread

Regular cotton ones. I really don't get how it helps, but it did the trick for me. :D

Using towels to dread

General Talk

So, two nights ago I went to a friends house to keep her company since she doesn't like being alone at night. She had no clean pillowcases, so she put a huge towel on my pillow, and I slept on that.

The next morning, my hair was wild. Really wild. It's been 11 months for me, and I've only had like 5 loops, and that was it. Now each and every one of them has loops, and the older ones have changed and developed greatly.

My hair has, in one night of sleeping on a towel, done more than it did during 11 months of sleeping on a wool pillowcase.

I have done the same towel thing last night, and they have changed some more.

I thought I'd share this with you all, for it might actually help someone.
