dreads +house painting

General Questions

Yeah they are mature, the ends are a bit thinner but I honestly havent had any problems until this week of painting =S Maybe I'll try covering them completely thanks for the idea. I thought for some reason it might be the covering itself thats drying them =S Iain said:
hmm damn, so are they like breaking off at the ends? an are your tips kinda thin, oh just realized yours are 2 1/2 years old, so they've gotta be mature, all I can think it's maybe finding something to cover your locks if possible that will protect them,

dreads +house painting

General Questions

Naw, it's with latex paint (regular house paint, you apply it with a brush) basically I chip off all the old paint off the house, sand it then paint it again. I'm thinking maybe the sanded off bits are going into my hair? I use baking soda to wash it usually, but maybe once every two weeks. i'll try the acv I guess, only I had thought that dried soaringeagle said:
hmm not sure why theyre drying but what do u wash with could be causing it
try the baking soda with acv rince then add jojoba oil to the acv its the best conditioner
are u using a spray on paint?

dreads +house painting

General Questions

So my summer job is painting houses this summer, bad for my fear of heights, my clothing and also my dreads apparently?Ever since I've started painting my dreads have been ridiculously dry and brittle. (I keep them up in a bun with a bandana covering most of them, but I don't know if this is why or if its paint chips or dust or whatever)I've tried putting shittons of conditioner in them, as well as putting cocoa butter on the ends, but it didnt do anything.Any suggestions to make them a bit nicer? (or even ways to prevent them from drying as i paint)

Introduce Yourself

Don't worry, itll get better! Before I had dreads my hair was ridiculously oily and I had to waersh it every day and it would still be a bit lank. But your scalp will get used to the less frequent washing in a few months =), after around 6 months with dreads I couldn't feel a difference between washing them every day or once a month. If you just want to get rid of the dirty feeling, just put your hair under the shower head, and get them wet.

how to dread

Dreading Methods

I really don't think that backcombing causes any damage if done correctly. I made extensions for my dreads out of human hair, using the backcomb method, which i did on a white table cloth. It would have been easy to see if any hairs had broken off, but none did. Also, you don't need to backcomb aggressively and fast to get results, all you need to do is push the hair back to the root, then push the next section back to the root and so on, and this will make a very tight dread immediatly that will only get better with time. Because this way of backcombing is slow it doesn't cause damage, or at least less damage than pulling apart clumps of hair that form on their own, like some people do with dreads forming naturally.
