Have I ruined my dreadlocks?

Dread Maintenance

I've had my dreads for about a year and unfortunatly I have severly damaged them. I kept dying my dreads and they feel really unhealthy. They feel dry and corse. Is there anything I can do to repair themat all or should I just leave them alone. I didn't realize how bad of shape they were in until I used the baking soda wash and rinse stuff. Could that have anything to do with how they are now? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I really thought about dreads before I started them. During the consideration process I asked my boyfriend what he thought about it. He said he didn't think I would look good with them. But, being the stubborn person I am, I decided I wanted dreads. And he helped me [backcombed, didn't know better]. After they started developing more he decided he really liked them a lot. He helps me decorate them =] I can't believe I lived so long without having my dreads. But I'm glad he was a part of the whole experience from the beginning. Feel's like a new chapter in the third book of my life. If that makes sense =]
