Palm Rolling Neglect dreads?

General Talk

So ive been neglecting for a little more than a year and a half.

A lot of my dreads are forming into a somewhat flat shape. Many are cylindric but have flat tips.

With that said would Palm rolling help? If so how would i go about doing so? would i just literally like maybe once a day spend a few minutes palm rolling? Do it after the shower?

Any one here palm roll their neglected dreads?

How many days can you go without washing your dreads before they start to smell?

Dread Maintenance

Hmmm when you guys say "Going with out washing"

do you mean you havnt even gotten your hair wet?

Or do you mean "havnt washed" as in havnt used soap on dreads?

Yikes

, im feeling a bit paranoid now. this is usually after maybe 2-3 days of not washing. im not sure if im just overly worried though or if dread rot is a legitimate culprit.

I read here that dread rot usually smells horrible when your hair is moist. Does this apply even after you just washed your hair? because my hair always smells nice and fresh after i wash it. It just seems that they start to smell i guess musty after only a few days.

Basically the smell i usually get from wearing a beanie for hours and then taking it off and smelling my hair is the type of smell im talking about when i havnt washed my dreads for days.

How many days can you go without washing your dreads before they start to smell?

Dread Maintenance

Been a long time since i posted last.

Its been about a year and a few months of neglect for me guys. My dreads are coming in satisfactory. Recently i was kind of happy because for the first time someone actually said something about my hair.

They actually asked "how did you get your dreads?" Made me feel legit haha.

but thats aside the point of this thread.

on topic,

I noticed that after washing my hair and my dreads have dried they smell nice and fresh like the soap i wash them with.

After only 2 days of no wet or wash though i seem to notice an odor. Not a horrible stench but the type of odor one might expect if they hadnt washed their hair in a few days.

So im wondering does this sound weird to you? or do dreads just naturally start to smell bad faster than undreaded hair when it hasnt been washed?

the nightmare of dread rot is always on my mind.......

Your thoughts?

One Year DreadlocK Paranoia =D (been a while since i posted)

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the replies guys.

One reason ive been sort of paranoid is that i often take a shower after working which is always at night. When i go to sleep my dreads are never fully dry and when i wake up in the morning they are usually still moist. (my dreads on average are the thickness of someones index finger id say BTW)

How long is too long for your dreads to be drying?

One Year DreadlocK Paranoia =D (been a while since i posted)

Dread Maintenance

well guys im approaching my one year mark. It was around february last year that i started my journey. Time flies. =D

That said, the more my dreads develop the more paranoid i get about them.

Recently i smelled one of my dreads and i guess it kind of smelled like grass

im using Dr. Bronners tea tree soap to wash my hair so i guess the grassy smell could be due to that. But it made me wonder,

if you have dread rot would it be really obvious? or is it something that might start out as a bad smell, and then grow into a horrible stench?

what are some tell tale signs that you might be experiencing dread rot?

people say dread rot smells "bad" but can you compare the smell to something? lol

Check the scenario............................ please

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the replies guys. is smell the only way to tell if one has dread rot? oPaulao said:
maybe not right now. Do they smell? If not you're probably ok. But it really is not good to sleep with wet hair(especially dreads).. could you find a way to allow at least 2-3 hours for drying?

You're going neglect, so do you have any dreads formed yet?
Pretty much most my hair is starting to dread from the middle and work its way up and down the hair. The ends of the sections are all loopy while the middle parts of the hair sections are more tight and cylindric shaped. Only one section in the back of my head has really dreaded up to the root. But most of the hair on my head thats close to the scalp is not dreaded yet.

Dread Maintenance

Been neglecting for 4 months. maybe a month into the process i developed a sort of "routine" with the washing.I shower everyday, but dont get my hair wet everyday. I get it wet maybe every 2 days. But wash it maybe every 4 days. When i take a shower its usually at night right before i go to sleep. That said... Ive been going to sleep with wet hair the whole time. Well i wrap it in a towel when i get out of the shower but its only on for maybe 15 minutes before it comes off and i go to sleep. If i take a shower at night It usually feels dry about mid-day, the next day. That said. should i be worried about dread rot at this point? are am i just being paranoid? My hair seems fine to me (no bad odor or anything) but after recently reading about hair being wet too long im a little worried......
