hey will my dreads get longer within a year?

im about 7-8 months in now with backcombed, only now have i started to notice growth in the roots of about 1/2 inch or so... as far as shinkage goes, thats just as indidual as growth, i backcombed when my hair was about 60cm (24 inches) now my longest dreads are about 20-25cm (8inches) and the shorter ones are about 10-15cm (4-6inches)... patients is def the key, they have come along so far in the last 5-6 months since i stopped stressing and messing with em, cant wait to see what theyll do over the next few years...happy travels my friend

let them be, give it time ( like a year or so) and they will be fine, just remember to rip/seperate them often and keep em clean. if they bug you to look at, dont look at them,,,

thats what the loops etc... are from my expieriance, the hair pulling up getting tighter, I lost well over half the length of my 2 foot long hair in the first cppl mths from massive zig zags, loopie undreaded sections... now after 7/8mths they are tight and there are no zig zags, loops etc... just mild to moderate lumps and bumps ( caractor)...it is very normal for this kind of thing to make you concerend that your dreads aint doing what thier ment to...the second i let them go, they started lookin "good"...and 6mths whent by before i knew it.... happy travels my friend... hahaha, you want dreads because your hair looks wierd...if ya dont want your hair to look wierd shave it,if ya want dreads, get used to it coz its gunna look like shit for a long time... william said:

Hair needs sufficient length to tangle up and stay in knots. You only have a few inches of hair. As they say on Star Trek: you can't change the laws of physics. So just relax and let your hair grow in. Keep it clean, don't comb it, and don't use conditioners... and by the time your hair is long enough for backcombing or twist & rip, your hair will have already started to knot up by itself.

man if ya stop conditioning and combing/brushing it now and forget about it, it will dread by its self, check out natural/neglect on the site. i wish i went that rout instead of back combed...

hehe, 7 mths in now and still got em, not as bad but, most have joined other dreads, sum have made baby dreads of there own, just let em do there thing for o the next 8mths or so, (but rip and wash of course). i think the best thing you can do is stick a hat or sumthing on if ya gunna be near a mirror, and let them be free if ya not if ya know what i mean,,,if you think they look bad at 1 week( which is quite normal indeed) just you wait. they are gunna get worse then better then worse then better,,, i think at about three mths or so youll just go fuck it let em do there thing, and thats when youll start noticing sum awsomness. untill then, read heaps, ask plenty of Qs and take a heap of pics for the sight, its normal to think they arnt doing what there ment to, thats what the sight is for...happy travels...;)

no way, mine was 2 ft or so when i loosley backcombed and 7 mths in they are going fine. admitedly they are much much shorter now most shoulder length and some at the bottom of my ears... what method are you using? regardless of method, i think this is a myth,,, happy travels my friend...

sorry its not the best pic but as you can see its not at the roots (ive got plenty of those and they dont bother me) its about half way down the dreads or so,,,
