In search for an american dream...

Introduce Yourself

Unfortunately my University has only exchange programs with Europe and Canada.I agree when you say people don't appreciate how great their country provide to them, and it's the same in France and I guess everywhere.Southern France is a very paradisiac place to live with the Mediterranean beaches and all the hollywood celebrities buy luxurious houses not so far from where I leave...But I dream about America. And the mass french behaviour drive me to fly to US. This always is " why do you want to go meet all these fat-idiots americans? and then goin to Mc Donalds or watch some american movies, or listen american music. There's no rational behaviour. You hate America? Just throw away all your american stuff and your stupid "I love NY shirt".Yea, I read every ingredients section on the food packages and always found this high fructose corn syrup, from sodas to meats ans burgers and in everything, I was very curious about it. We don't find it in french industrial food.Is that the cause of the new legendary american bad nutrition? In France there are many law obligations, like to put in all food packages a "without preservatives or dyes " mention. That's good but many industrials are forced to give up due to all these frames.I can get what you say Lexi, I have never eaten so much food like during the 3 weeks I spent in the US so I was questioning myself about a possible addictive ingredient in the american food. Every time I was eating something, about half an hour after I was hungry and wanted the same, even in all your fast food chains (we only have Mc Do and KFC in France).Does a "natural origin" logo exist in american supermarkets as an afordable alternative alimentation? It 's growing fast in Europe.

You grown in the US and habitude makes us want to leave our birthplace, so you 'll easily see the negative sides of your country.Ausralia seems to be a very great place that I'd love to visit, but to have traveled around the US I can tell you that there a thousand of beautiful places and amazing people, and I WANT TO EAT BEEF JERKY, BURGERS AND DONUTS ALL DAY LONG !!!!!!! ^^

The common view about dreadlocks is the same than in many other places. People see dreadheads as stereotypes like drug takers, rastafarian reggaemen or vagabonds.Employers don't like it and you have to attach your dreads to make them as discrete as possible. But it depend on the type of job you do.In university there is no problem wearing dreads, it can help you to create contacts or instead let you stay alone. Still depending on the studies you do.In which way you will study in France? In which university? (north/ south/ middle)

Damn, are all americans like homer simpson?^^ food, drink, TVI already came here and yes it was a really good experience and I met many people, but I don't like to be considered as a tourist, and my goal is to leave my town and build a new life behind the american flag.I'm so perplexed (is that the right word?) when I hear many americans and frenchs talking about the american government since the 9/11. In France law requires the government always to act in a way that people can see through. Is that not the same in the US ?How can beef jerky be bad for my body? Apparently it's just pieces of beef.American food is known to be bad for health because of how fat it is and because of over eating. I was open- mouthed to see a queue in a fast food at 4:30 PM lol.About dread wax, I don't like it or use it but I think if it's still on the market after several years, it would means that it satisfy at least a sufficient number of customers to make sellers prospers.

I crossed Las Vegas just to see famous places and constructions but definitly not a part of my best memories.Very beautiful lights during the night ( I think you could light Marseille for 1 hour just turning off the LV's lights during 10 minutes)^^ and cheap motels but with no money difficult to be able to do something. And crossing the streets and casino's I really felt like in a hell gallery^^Very interesting to travel around the US to see the gap between a religious/pious city one day and a city like LV the next day.

thanks!!!! From which state do you come from ? You seem have travelled in all the USMany americans I met along the road had never visited legendary places like Grand Canyon or the Death Valley, so it was a little funny to describe to americans what beautiful american places look like. However I met so few dreadheads, I though I would see more than in France, I guess I crossed touristic places but not only

From the states I visited I think Oregon stay in my mind and California (San Francisco was a beautiful city), but there is so many differents places and regions so I can't give you one in priority.Any place where I could find a job would be a first opportunity, but I mostly like regions with relief and woods, not as the long/right/plane route 66 I drove through. I like rural landscapes but not so far from cities (everything is in accomodation^^)I'm not interested in to be a lawyer so I drove my studies into journalism, but I know this way request to be perfectly bilingual so I really have to practice english again and again.I also worked in manual less qualified sectors like "logistic" (is it the word?) driving electric machines and like manual activities a lot.Okay 4:30 AM in France so I have to go sleepinThanks a lot for advices and for spending time sharing a part of America !So profitable for me

Introduce Yourself

I heard some testimonies about how much difficult it is to get a green card and a job due to the economic difficulties.I'm actually in University, I studied in law and journalism and I have to finish my 5th and last year.Probably you don't understand why I dream to live and work in the US cause you're american citizens and you don't have the same image of your country than me.How can I explain this attraction? mmm I don't really know but maybe all my passions and hobbies are a part of this cause they come from here, and what can I say, I'm just fascinated by the american culture, whatever the bad image you've got around the world since the bush period.I did 5000 miles of road this summer from chicago to LA and this made me just more motivated, feeling it was the land I had to be in.So...it's kind stupid to move in a country to face difficulties to get a job when France offers diplomas and less economic problems but if I don't try this, I will certainly regret.Could you tell me if in the US exist institutions dedicated to help people, maybe especially foreign workers to get a job in any way ? There're a lot in France but I know we european countries have more developed social politics.Concernant le Qubec je serai excit l'ide d'aller vivre et y travailler quelques mois ou un an mais c'est vraiment aux Etats Unis que je me vois long terme. Il y a une part d'inexplicable l dedans ^^
