Yeah it would probably be easier to go to Quebec, and there wouldn't be a problem of a language barrier and their economy is doing better than ours at the moment. I don't know if it's easier to become a citizen or get work papers or whatever is required, but it is difficult here, you'll need to be sponsored for work or school, and a lot of jobs are not that keen on sponsoring immigrants regardless of where they're from unless you're bringing a skill that is in need, which is where a degree would be useful.

It is difficult to get citizenship here (one example is my partner's step-dad is from Canada, and he's lived here and been married to my partner's mom for over 15 years, but he is not a citizen, he just has the paperwork to work here because he is a college professor for marketing and is in high demand with a few universities, so they always sponsor him when the renewal time comes up for paperwork.

Funny I took 4 years of French in High school, never used it since, now I cannot speak it or write it but I can understand it if I hear it (slowly) or read it. And only bits. :P

That's cool! It's easier for me to write in English but speaking French is easier... most French people have a hard time with the Quebec accent. I met a French student that I help get around my town, it took him 2 weeks to get around the accent and once and a while we had to repeat what we said to him...funny because people from Quebec have no problem understanding people from France.Back to the subject... in Quebec there is a big demand for workers in many fields and immigration is encourage. A lot of companies participate in a government program to help immigrants, some companies even pay for the trip and find you a place to live.

Maybe I studied Canadian French, then, all our textbooks focused on Quebec and Montreal. My teacher was a France enthusiast though, and we had exchange students from France. I am sure I wouldn't know the difference in any accent, it's all French to me LOL.

I wish I'd had more friends who took French, it was phased out for Spanish only at my school after I graduated. It's been 8 years since I graduated high school and the only other person I know who speaks French around me is my partner's stepfather, and he only knows it somewhat (he's from Calgary).

I love Canada, my mother moved us there for 6 months before returning to the US. We stayed in Ontario mostly, it was snowy but not cold, which sounds weird but it totally was.

I want to make more French speaking friends so I can talk and hear it more and get better at it again. Your written English is good, ben, I saw some of your other posts. If you do come to the US I know a few call centers where I live that want French/English bi-lingual employees, and some of the casinos here hire foreign people to make them seem authentic (like the Eiffel Tower Restaurant and the Paris hotel) but Las Vegas is a very commercialized type of place and it's hard to not absolutely hate this place

I heard some testimonies about how much difficult it is to get a green card and a job due to the economic difficulties.I'm actually in University, I studied in law and journalism and I have to finish my 5th and last year.Probably you don't understand why I dream to live and work in the US cause you're american citizens and you don't have the same image of your country than me.How can I explain this attraction? mmm I don't really know but maybe all my passions and hobbies are a part of this cause they come from here, and what can I say, I'm just fascinated by the american culture, whatever the bad image you've got around the world since the bush period.I did 5000 miles of road this summer from chicago to LA and this made me just more motivated, feeling it was the land I had to be in.So...it's kind stupid to move in a country to face difficulties to get a job when France offers diplomas and less economic problems but if I don't try this, I will certainly regret.Could you tell me if in the US exist institutions dedicated to help people, maybe especially foreign workers to get a job in any way ? There're a lot in France but I know we european countries have more developed social politics.Concernant le Qubec je serai excit l'ide d'aller vivre et y travailler quelques mois ou un an mais c'est vraiment aux Etats Unis que je me vois long terme. Il y a une part d'inexplicable l dedans ^^

I know there are a lot of pro bono lawyers here for helping with immigrants but they mostly work with hispanic immigrants and it's usually to be able to stay here once they're here.

Your degree is in Law and Journalism? For law just the study of it or are you going to be a Lawyer? I am sure there are programs for both fields, I will check around here and let you know. Is there a specific place in US you want to be? (or region, like midwest, west, plains, east coast, south- all are very different types of people, I've lived in all the different regions of US and they're all a different experience and some more difficult than others to deal with) Big city, small town, urban, rural?

From the states I visited I think Oregon stay in my mind and California (San Francisco was a beautiful city), but there is so many differents places and regions so I can't give you one in priority.Any place where I could find a job would be a first opportunity, but I mostly like regions with relief and woods, not as the long/right/plane route 66 I drove through. I like rural landscapes but not so far from cities (everything is in accomodation^^)I'm not interested in to be a lawyer so I drove my studies into journalism, but I know this way request to be perfectly bilingual so I really have to practice english again and again.I also worked in manual less qualified sectors like "logistic" (is it the word?) driving electric machines and like manual activities a lot.Okay 4:30 AM in France so I have to go sleepinThanks a lot for advices and for spending time sharing a part of America !So profitable for me
