Dreadlockshampoo.com locking gel question... and a comment...

Dread Products

Thanks SE... I'll use it a bit here and there then... my husband said he hates the smell of it and its stuck in his nose today... guess its a good thing I don't have to use it forever then :)
Thanks for the advice, I didn't want to use it every day and have some crazy buildup happening that would work against the process :)

Dreadlockshampoo.com locking gel question... and a comment...

Dread Products

So I received my container of locking gel from dreadlockshampoo.com yesterday... put it on my baby dreads last night, but felt the need to wash my hair this morning since I finished T&Ring my hair yesterday and I hadn't washed since Sunday. So in the meantime while I'm looking like a drowned rat I was wondering. Should I use the locking gel EVERY day, even between washes? Or should I only use it after I wash my hair?

Thoughts on the smell of the locking gel:

Now I as a general rule since my son was born don't use much of anything that has scent to it, even to the extent that I use Charlie's Laundry Detergent which leaves NO smell on our clothing. I considered that when I bought the Karma instead of the unscented locking gel. I figured since it was mostly natural, and everything that is in it that smell IS natural, I'd be okay... however... I DESPISE licorice.. It just so happens that organic licorice root in the 4th item on the list of ingredients and also the first of anything that has any smell to it, so I'm assuming that there is more licorice root in it than any other "smelly" ingredient, and its the first thing I smell. It hasn't and won't stop me from using Karma, and if you can get past the licorice smell you'll be fine. The undertones to it are very pleasant actually! As far as I'm concerned for my own personal use its a damn shame that there's licorice root in it, but when it comes down to it its really whatever, I'm still going to use the product.
I do like how it made my hair feel, nice and soft. I only used a tiny tiny bit per dread and feel that I got good coverage. She was a sweetheart and sent me a sample of her bar soap Dragon's Blood, and also was nice enough to put a note on the packing slip making sure I knew that the bar soap was for more mature dreads. Maybe down the road I'll try it out sometime, too bad I'm going to have to wait so long until I can try it though :)

dreadlocks falling out??

General Questions

I don't really think that it was based on nutrition, I was/am religious about taking my vitamins. And I know that some of the other mom's I know are very conscious about their health. 4 other women in my group went through this a few months after the baby was born. Of course out situations are different than the original post is concerned, we delt with it just a couple months after the baby was born, not years. It could possibly be from a thyroid issue, I've wondered if part of my problem that struggling with weight loss isn't based on the same issue.

dreadlocks falling out??

General Questions

From my experience my hair actually stopped falling out while I was pregnant, and I've known several other mom's that had the same thing happen... and then all of a sudden a few months after you give birth all of that hair that was supposed to fall out while you were pregnant falls out in a very short period of time, like a couple weeks. I started FREAKING when it happened, but was reassured when other local mom's were going through the same thing. Sorry I know that didn't help with your original post, but I wanted to put my two cents in. :) Good luck!

baby dreads in a convertible when it's hot?

General Questions

I'm not talking fabric... I'm talking yarn... Merchandised Cotton is a very smooth cotton yarn

cotton does breath, but it shows creases well. I'd say linen would be nice, but again it creases really easily.

baby dreads in a convertible when it's hot?

General Questions

I wonder... I've got a couple skeins of a merchandised cotton that I've been thinking of making myself a summer tam out of, since its a thinner weight yarn I could use the same size hook and make a looser crocheted tam with it... Thoughts on using cotton for summer tams?
