Thank you all for replying to my topic you all are awesome and i loved hearing your stories. My shell bead actually fell out the other day thankfully I heard when it fell so i will be able to reattach it. I also forgot to upload a pic of a bead that my mom made me out of clay.

Yay! I'm so happy you posted this thread! I too have sentimental beads...well actually, the only ones I will put in my hair hold sentimental value. :)
My native American friend made me a turquoise and purple zig-zag peyote stitch that's about 3" long
My dready sister and bff made me a badass swirl charm out of clay that frequently dangles on the bottom of a wrap
My friend Nikki who originally got me interested in dreads gave me an awesome glass bead which I call "starry night"
The list goes on, but those are the most important ones to me and I would be crushed if I ever lost them. I only wear beads my friends have given me because I think it's a good way to carry the people close to me with me. I absolutely love that you guys have things that remind you of your family! Good thread!

Makes sense. I thought about them being heavy and all as they get longer but I really like looooong dreads. :D I'm worried about them getting too thin at the top as they grow though, so who knows! Maybe in the future I'll trim too! Bene said:

there isnt any particular reason, i simply like change so every now and then i cut them short

plus if they are too long they get kind of anoying and are always in the way

i usually cut them in spring to have short dreads in summer and then i let them gorw through the wohole year in order to have long dreads in winter to keep my head warm.

and thats the circle of life of my dreads :)

Inspiring! I crocheted mine in the beginning too. Once I realized how terrible it was I stopped and it's been a year and I think they look pretty good! Can't wait till mine get as long as yours though! Anyways, nice post man! I think I just got a little more self-confidence :)

the spirituality of dreading (regardless of religion or lack of)

History and Religious Significance

I find it hard to explain the spiritual aspect of dreading to strangers because I find that I am very much sharing an extremely personal journey. I feel if I share this aspect with non-dreads I am opening myself up to unwanted ridicule for my lifestyle choices. Even though spirituality is mostly the reason, I usually say something like "to remind myself not to judge people based on outward appearances" statement. Dreading takes a special kind of person and I'm not always apt to give away our secrets in a judgmental society. You have to earn the right to hear my opinions. Might sound kind of snobbish, but too many people (IMO) tend to do something just because they think it's cool. Show me you're spiritual and I'll share my secrets. Make sense? Lindsay said:
I agree with all of this. :) Its hard for me to explain to people that dreads are not all about "hair style" a lot dont realize there is something very spiritual about having dreadlocks :)

dreadlock formal or wedding styling tips for african or caucasian dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Ooo! I really like that 3rd pic! Do you know where it came from so I can take a look at other views of it?

I am officially enlisting your help everyone...Our wedding is going to be August 27th and I have yet to find a hairstyle. I remember seeing this absolutely stunning pic of a girl who wrapped white ribbon around every one of her dreads and then did a beautiful updo. Unfortunately, I have NO idea what happened to the pic I had of it. I've spent hours searching random keywords. Anybody know what I'm talkin about? Any help would be much appreciated :)
