Bleached dreads damage? Need advice lovelies :)

Yep its bad for them, my last set were black and i decided i wanted them purple, beached them and they got damaged pretty bad, one of them fell off and i sewed them back together again, if you do decide to bleach them, only dfo the roots as maintenace not the whole dread every time.
