Newcomer to both this site, and to natural dreads (:

Introduce Yourself

Thanks! I am pretty excited.
As I said earlier, I'll be posting a timeline showing how they look right now in the timeline thread if you're interested (:

When I was younger, I was researching Rastafarianism. On one forum, I read something about how the longer and thicker your locks were, the easier it would be for Jah to pick up your soul after you died. This spoke volume to me. I don't practice any religion, now (especially no judeo/christian religion), but I still like the idea of this concept. I started my first set with wax. But that was a horrible disaster. So I shaved my head and started growing them again. This set used no products and only mild manipulation. I'm going on 6 years, and can never imagine cutting them off for any reason.

I guess it's part of my personality, but I never got too frustrated. I Even when they were 1 yar old and looked like a mangy street cat.

But if you are seeing that kind of progress in 5 days, you should be proud and happy. I didn't see anything for a few months

Yeah, I just kinda realized that.
I just see other people who are much farther and see that as progress.
However, I guess it depends how long you've been going, so far 5 days, I have good progress, I was wrong, aha.

Wow, thats awesome.
I do see a bit of a change everyday though, more sections, a little more hair grouping together, a bit beginning to knot. In a few weeks I'll hope to see the beginning of baby dreads (:

Hey, I'm Ryan, I've been dreading about a week now, I know tons about natural dreads, and I'm really excited to watch the progress of my dreads unfold.
But, I have a question for you guys as well: What made you want to dread, and do you ever get frustrated if you feel like theres no progress?

For me, many of my friends had beautiful locks and are involved in dreaded culture, and a little, I haven't seen a TON of progress as it is, lol.

Too much tam?

Dreading Methods

Okay, I just wear my tam a good bit because my hair is medium length, 6-7 inches, so i can't really tie it back or anything, and it gets annoying having it in my face, and I don't want to touch it.

Too much tam?

Dreading Methods

hey guys, I haven't been dreading long, but I have noticed if I wear my tam too much, yeah , my hair gets all wild, and starts knotting -- at first. If i wear it for what seems more than a few hours, it seems to flatten my hair out. I'm wondering: should i hold back on wearing my tam until I've been dreading a bit longer, does this effect my progress, or is this completely normal?

-Thanks, a new member (:
