Dreads un-doing from rip and twist. What do I do?

General Talk

so with time those 3 inches will knot up more? cuz currently it just feels like it will stay a curl forever. But I think I'll take your advice.

General Talk

after measuring a few. the ones I was calling into question are like 3 inches of undoing. they curl to look like 1.5 but on one of them for instance I have like 3 in. undone, an 1 in. of knotted stuff and the roots. (that one is the lowest hanging one on the upper left picture)

Dreads un-doing from rip and twist. What do I do?

General Talk

I have had my dreads now for about 4 and a half months 2 months ago. I started Rip and Twist (RnT) and then crocheted for a while after discovering this site I dropped the needle to let them grow. as well as made a few smaller dreads.

Dropping the needle was one of the best things I did. I felt great about myself and just told people not to worry about it when they said my dreads looked anything other than good (had a few critics, but managed). at this point I'm still feeling great BUT i've notice a few of the dreads I didn't do a crocheted tip are now coming undone. Like its now less than half of it knotted up. Im wondering what to do? cuz what happens is they turn into tight curls and I don't think they are able to knot up much. It is a possibility that I'll always just have SUPER CURLY tips, but most of my dreads I'm much more happy with, don't know what the exact difference is.

Thoughts?

My basic plan was RnT some more and then tie the tips with some yarn for a few months and just let them learn to not be pure curly rings. but I thought I would consult here first and post some more pictures of my progress.

after looking around Karl Edwards posted a Discussion where he just had to let it go, but, I thought I'd still ask.

Recovery of Chrochet?

Introduce Yourself

for some reason I couldn't rite anything with it, I was confused.

This is one of the new sections I made by pulling some out of bigger dreads around it. I made three new ones and plan to devide a few more in the back that are extra big.... WISH me luck. Any notes for supper frizzy curly hair going natural?

Recovery of Chrochet?

So with my hair the state it is what do you think I should do? Just wait, wash, and separate? I've been reading around and seeing scared people with their crocheted dreads. Mine were RnT but I had two big sessions of needle =(. Also I needled my most my tips shut, Bad me?

Mostly I just see all these people here with their sad stories about how they started. and I am now 2 months in and want to do this right. My roots are now starting to grow out (they were way way to close when I first got them), there about an 1inch I think. Is there anything at all to do? I just feel figety, like I should just rip them out and start over, which is NOT the first thing I wanna do.

Recovery of Chrochet?

I got 33 in total. though true, I think there pretty thick on top and the back part I got more on the sides that are smaller.

count them that looks like very few dreads with lotsa space around so way tight crochet if theres under 20 u may have a problem with them getting way huge

Recovery of Chrochet?

Introduce Yourself

I got my dreads about 7 to 8 weeks ago using rip and twist. Since then I have done a bit of crochet work on them more on the tips cuz I didn't like my curls on the ends of the dreads and didn't know what else to do... So I haven't worked on them too intensely but they are quite stiff, not like when I first got them with rip and twist but harder than I'd like.

I forget the date of when I actually got them but they looked like this after a week or a few days (can't recall the date) but before I did hardly any crochet work on them. (I never took many early pics but I'll look for more) Sorry for the brightness and contrast. thought I still think the top one looks kinda cool and crazy.

And now they look like this (taken today)

My current plan is as many I've read about here. Drop the crochet hook in the trash and watch.

though any comments on them? recommendations? I have not yet tried to do the baking soda washing, but I will work to find all the stuff. I'm also in Bolivia, so I don't know where it all is may take a while to find.
