I want some tips about the neglect method

General Questions

Thank you so much for everyone here! I have no problem with the society critics, as i'm a fan of the punk culture, and i have no problem with patience for the neglect method, now i'm decided about this method, and i'm sure that it will look great by the time!

Have another questions:

As there's no information about ths method here in Brazil, and i think that there are no specific products, can i wash my hair with COCONUT SOAP? I've heard that it is good for dreading, and it don't let no residue.

Can i wear hoods? It helps the proccess or slow it down? [i just don't want to screw up the proccess]

Thank you all again, very useful information, and a we are in a beautiful comunnity!

Peace!

I want some tips about the neglect method

General Questions

i've hard about crochet hurting the hair, but here in Brazil we don't have so much information about this, there are even some people with dreads who criticize natural locks...

Thank you so much about the reply brother, now i'll let the dreads grow by nature...

Thank you so much about the tips of how dry my hair too.

I'll try to find some products good for dreading, i don't know if i'll find here, but if i don't find here i'll try to purchase online.

Oh, i saw your locks on youtube, like i commented before, they look so great. Keep growing!

do not even think about crochet or about salons thats a horible mistake neglect is the best way ofcourse and your hair will dread fast but under no circumstances should u ever touch a crochet hook or waste money in a salon

if you dont dread by oct do twist and rip yourself

but yea your already starting to dread

but tips

u wanjt no products ever except a dread soap or the baking soda recipe

u dont want to use over the counter shampoos they condituon without conditioners and leave residues u want a dread shampoo ..or bs/acv (look it up on here)

when u wash if u use a drad shampoo only scrub the scalp carefully not the hair itself then rinse it through

whan u dry dont towel dry or run fu=inger s through hair shake it out then drip/air/sun dry

doing sea salt soaks sp[rays or swims in the ocean help

crochet will destroy yoir hair slow dreading by 6 months

its a huge mistake to make

salons are a disaster

I want some tips about the neglect method

General Questions

Hello people, i'm 20, and brazilian and i ever loved dreadlocks, but never had them before.

Well, i've stop cutting my hair in October, 2011 (this was the last time i've cut my hair, by myself in home) not for dreading it, but just to don't give a f* about my hair. The fact is that maybe, i will crochet my hair in October 2012, but i've noted that i'm neglecting my hair since February, as i don't comb it and wash it only 2 times a week [no conditioner too]. I've knew about the neglect method by accident, and i was doing this without intention, but i just want to let my hair do his work until October, and if it don't make some dreads i'll crochet them in the saloon.

I've noted that some parts of my hair are "combing" together, and they still together even when i wash my hair [look at the second picture], do this mean that these parts are becoming dreads? Look in picture 5 too.

I need some tips about how to neglect my hair, can i do it without products? [i live in Brazil, so there's a lot of difficulty in finding products for dreadlocks]. Can i use hood or this will mess up the proccess? And if some dreads grow up in my hair, as i said, and in October i crochet my hair, is this ok?

If i stretch my hair, i can measure it as 8-12 inches in the frontal part, but in the sides of my head my hair is only 4 to 6 inches now. If i crochet my hair now, how it will look? (do someone have a pic of an similar case?)

Thank you so much, my brothers, peace in your heart!

Some pictures of my hair

I feel like my natural dreads are at such a blah stage. A few questions.

General Questions

i felt like this... i haven't separated on the first 5 months.

Then i felt the need to separate and i got a lot of loosen hair from this. Now i'm on the 8.5 months mark, and i still have lots of loosen hair, and most of my sections on the sides are not dreaded at all, i still have some sections that are just normal hair

forget about it... the time will solve your problems...
