Also, I twirl my hair incessantly, ever since I was a kid. This has helped them clump the past few days, now im not combing. Is this going to drastically affect the "neglect" look Im otherwise going for?
Right on, just took a shower, they held their shit together. Heres a pic. Remember, it's only a few hours old now.
Its pretty loose though. I only wanted to get them going and be able to neglect them proper.

it looks very fat how big isd theroot section not dread thickness the area at the roots
So I did my first dread, finally! It sort of didnt like itself so it split into two kinda by itself.
It's REAL loose right now, though the root feels fairly "matted" Im not sure if it's "locked" or not. Maybe someone could take a look and give me a clue on how it looks. I really just did some backcombing - I could NOT get twist and rip to work for me. But backcombing just feels... wrong. Ha.
Really I want to do the neglect method but want to get them "started" a bit with some light combing, et al. Advicies?
Done and done. I wanted dreads so I coiuld stop messing with my hair so why am i messing with it so much!

no dont tips are better off loose anyway they let water run out so they dry way faster if they blunt themselves ..ok if not great
leave the tips alone
theres better ways to get beads on too
Yeah, I started with a single "tester" dread, that has since become two testers. I tried backcombing and it just damaged that dread. So i did TnR some but it never worked. I never crotched (except to get the beads in!) but I bought one! Guess I should throw it away. Womp womp. 3 bucks.
Im just gonna let them do their thing. Just not combing has produced several dreads, I havent counted yet.
They dont seem to want to stay together at the tip. Im tempted to add a rubberband but I dunno.
