I have the same colour hair and also dyed mine dark brown. I put the juice from about four lemons in a cup (about 3/4 full) and filled the rest with conditioner. put that all in my hair and let it soak while i watched an entire movie. it wasnt fun, didnt feel good and dripped lots. i wore a big old hoodie with a big hood and kept putting it by my neck to stop the dripping. But it worked perfectly
they were lasting just fine, they were fat and strong. but only lasted 2 and a half to three years because i made the mistake of cutting them off.
The lady at the salon was super nice, and meant well. A young, down to earth chick. She was just doing what she was taught and I don't blame her for being misinformed. Yes, back combed then permed in those sections. And then wax.
And at two weeks of dreads I would say my progress compares with 3 to 5 months with the wax and perm.
However, my hair did grow to twice its length and you couldn't tell the difference. Also, I did nothing about the wax except just washing my hair.
Three years ago I was 16 and had my hair back combed and perm-dreaded...they told me to not wash for two whole months! GROSS! They meant no water even. And I used wax, which was highlyrecommended. No, I didn't listen about washing not washing my hair, how could I?
Anyway...It didn't take me long to realize that the wax was garbage, withoutanyoneelsesadvice I tossed it and carried on...
I have since cut my dreads off and started again. Chemical and wax free. And its amazing how fast they are progressing in comparrison...
Enough about me, what are you wax/no wax stories??
Thanks everyone for your replies! I was curious to see the correlation between size and number. I realize now that how "old" they are also plays a huge role.
I have 41. some are very tiny. last time I had dreads I had 42 and they were all fairly chunky. so theyll be even fatter this time around. Im exited

pardon the weirdness of the way my comment was written...proofreading with a two year old (who ought to be asleep!) in your lap doesn't always work...
What's your dread count raene?
Lets just see how this works..how many dreads do you have and how thick are they on average?
someone once said to me, "why would you do that to yourself, you used to be soo beautiful." what a wack perception of beauty, how could I take that to heart?
I would do it, it'll grow back, really is just hair. Take your son to see the whole world!
