thanks so much! yes they have lightened, the sun has always turned my hair blondish on the ends even without dye, my mom is a natural blonde and my dad has naturally black hair so I guess that's how I turned out with brown ombre hair! But also around 8 months before I started my dreads I had dyed my hair black, which turned to reddish brown pretty quickly in the florida sun! so there's still some of that in my hair i'm sure! and I just got that top at the thrift store that day, thanks :D

thanks! yeah the shrinkage is pretty crazy! i'm embracing it right now, but once i was old enough to control when my hair was cut I always kept it long! so I'm very eager for my dreads to start growing again. thanks so much! :D

Ah well I spent the majority of my 11-17 years being some combination of shy/depressed/anti-social/social anxiety so yeah it was only a couple months before I turned 18 that I started SLOWLY coming out of my shell I think it was honestly influenced by a History of the 60s class I took in high school, that's when I started listening to classic rock and learning about the hippie movement and that honestly just somehow made my brain happier! Fast forward a couple months I get my first job this year where I have to speak to people constantly all day! So Publix helped me by letting me realize that people were just like me and nothing to be afraid of. Plus I think just gettin older helped me out! I rarely got hit on or approached until I grew self-confidence, now it's quite a bit! Confidence is key as they always said and now I know it's true! So yeah no girls no boys, I used to think I was asexual! yep that's my story haha

Wow thanks SE I was seriously floored by your comments!!!! tbh I kinda stopped worrying about the flat ones, I am one with my dreadies...for now lol. And actually I started dating for the very first time a couple weeks ago, a chill peaceful dreadhead who's the sweetest guy ever; dreads really do bring in the cool people and repel the douches! :D

I'm at a really happy point in my life right now and I don't think I'd be here without my dread journey! So your support and kind words and just puttin this site together has really helped me, so thanks again! :)

Hi everyone! Looking back, I realized I never posted a 6 month update, so sorry bout that! But here's 7 months, I love my dreadies more and more each day! I've had people offer to crochet for me but I turned them down. I also starting using the bar soaps from dreadlockshampoo. These were taken on day 223, and my 7 month dreadiversary was on day 214!

thanks! I wish i just had 3 or 4 of those flat dreads, but it's the majority of my hair :(. I pull my hair back off my face a lot, plus I work at publix so I have to keep my hair in a ponytail a lot, and keep it looking somewhat nice. plus a lot of times when i wash my hair just the front parts smooth put again! ahh well i guess we just gotta stick with it!

christina popejoy said:

These are just ace! I think the loops look soo cool, I am totally with you on the wide flat ones. 3-4 of mine look exactly like that. I think i've heard that they eventually get rounder as they grow thicker. The front not remaining dreaded? I dont know if you do this but do you run your hands though the front of your hair like to pull the hair back off your face alot? I know i do and the front bits are not dreading well for me either.

Hello everyone! Thank you for your kind words! I finally got around to taking pictures of my hair.

Here is my hair at day 154, 2 days after the 5 month mark:

As you can see, there's been some serious shrinkage!! However, the front ends of my hair still remain stubbornly undreaded. A great way to show the difference is when I lean to the side:

(Day 156 from here on out)

And here are some individual strands!

One thing I'm unhappy about with my babies is that they are so flat. The next two pictures are of the same strand:

As you can see they are wide and flat! I would prefer them to be rounder. Any tips?

I would also like to call special attention to my very first dread, a backcombed one, which was made 2 weeks before I started the rest of my hair. I haven't measured it yet but it's probably 5 or less inches!

That piece is 5 and a half months! It just blows my mind how much it shrunk!

Month 4-5 was kind of tough for me, it was the first time I ever seriously thought of combing out my hair. Every other day I would flip back and forth between wanting to comb them out and wanting to keep them. When I realized how much my hair had shrunk (plus I reactivated my facebook and looked at a lot of old pictures of my awesome long hair), I really missed having long hair to run my fingers through and braid and all that. But I'm dedicated to my locs! Once I hit the five month mark I pretty much decided to keep them, though I do still miss my old hair.
