I think I'll try out the baking soda! Right now I'm back and forth between my moms homemade shampoo, dr. bronners and a yummy smelling vanilla and orange bar soap I got from Ellwood Thompson's!
Dunno if these pictures help, but thank you! I washed it today, but right now I've been sticking to an every-other-day wash = )

pictures would help. i've had the worst time in my journey finding something that would clean my hair well and leave it feeling a bit dry so that it will knot. what are you washing with now? i would say since you just started that doing baking soda washes would probably be the best thing for you. 1 tbs. bs per cup of water. mix it up in a juice container or something like it. wet your hair first and then pour the mixture over your hair. let it sit on your hair for 3 - 5 minutes and then rinse. this should remove the greasy feeling on your hair and make it drier in texture. you could always try a clarifying shampoo but that would require you to touch your hair more and it might set you back.

Introduce Yourself

Hi! I'm 17 and I'm currently 15 days into my baby dreads. I love them but I'm at a dilemma here. I've tried about four different shampoos and it always feels like my hair is just nasty. Now, I'm one of those people who just loves to touch their hair. I'm always playing with it or doing something with it, so I definitely notice how yucky it feels, and even looks. It's separating nice, and I have a bunch of little babies, but I feel like it's just not dry enough.

Besides my shampoo conundrum, I have people around me telling me my hair looks like sh*t, JUST because they know I started dreads and they're against it. Even my parents fight over it and it just makes me want to brush them out and move on. I feel like my hair has to be up in a bun or I have to have a hat on to go out because it looks bad, or not clean.

So basically, I'll take any help, and thanks a bunch = )

Shampoos and Soaps ~ Maybe get a list started

Dread Maintenance

Alright y'all I'm having a really hard time finding a soap I like. I tried Dr. Bronners, but it leaves my hair feeling nasty. My mom concocted a shampoo a while ago which worked at first, but now it's like everything just makes my hair feel gross = / I'm at a really troublesome point here, I've being naturally dreading for 15 days and I feel like I can never wear my hair down because it looks terrible. Moral support and suggestions are welcome = ) Thank you!
