The Demon Drink

General Questions

I know where you're coming from, I've done my share of binge drinking. I'm lucky that I too can recognize when enough is enough and cut back or stop altogether. I just really wanted to get the point out that if you do decide you have a problem to not shy away from AA because of the higher power/god issue. I felt compelled to keep it on topic lol. Anyway, as long as you recognize the indicators of a problem and can admit them to yourself if you have them, you're ok. Good luck to you!

The Demon Drink

General Questions

I would like to throw in my thoughts about recovery groups. In my opinion, they can be extremely helpful. You don't have to turn your will over to someone elses idea of god. It's a higher power as YOU understand it. It could be a rock, a piece of clothing, a concept, the rooms meetings are held in, the meeting itself, or a particular message. I too struggled with what a higher power could be, and I got the answer (for now) from an Al-Anon book. I don't have a higher power but I do have a higher consciousness. Plus, step work, if you feel you need to do it (most in recovery do) is done at your own pace. When you feel comfortable doing it. If you struggle with a step (Step 2 in this case) talk to your sponsor, someone who has shared similar experiences, even yourself. I know a lot of althoests, Buddhists, pagans, wiccans, Native Americans, etc in recovery. A Christian view of god is not required. Now that I've gone on and on... In my opinion, if you're having to consciously try to limit yourself, set boundaries, there's a problem. You mentioned beginning to want to drink durning the day, while at work, just because, alone. That indicates a problem. It's very easy to fill in any answer on an online survey to get the end result that makes you happy. I'm not saying you did that, I'm just sayin....

Opinions on Birth Control Pills?

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

What about menopause? I had cysts removed from my ovaries when I was 37, fr whatever reason it shut my ovaries down, causing instant intense menopause. I 'm talking hot flashes every 15-20 minutes day and night. There was absolutely no relief. I ended up going on HRT :( I'd love to get off it, but every time I cut back the hot flashes and crazies start up again. I'm going to check out that site, but researching stuff is a pain on a phone.

Help me out with your opinion!!

Koko, the liquid shampoos from dreadlockshampoo.com has sea salt in it, it's formulated for new dreads to help them lock up a bit. The bars don't have sea salt and are good for more mature dreadies. Either one is awesome and they all smell fabu. You might smell a tad vinegary with the acv rinse, but it's not too noticeable. Get some good smelling essential oils and that completely eliminates it.

Baking soda alone will dry your scalp out. Follow it with an apple cider vinegar rinse (2 caps to 4-5 cups water) and you should be good!

White and distilled vinegar are the same. It's not expensive at all either. You can always buy oils online, mountain rose herbs has to s and to s of oils and are reasonably priced. To find a place locally just google something like 'lavender essential oil ' and if there's a store that has a website that sells that oil it'll show up.

Do a search up top for mold/mildew. You should find a solution there. I've read several posts about removing mold and mildew, I just can't remember exactly what they said. I do remember that lavender oil is good for combating and preventing it.As for separating, do it when your hair is wet. Try some wraps or beads to keep your sections apart.

Help! Save My Dreads

It could be a combination from your previous hair wash and dead skin. I've pulled off the ends of a few dreads and cut them open to find what looks like dust. No smells, no funky colors, just dusty looking.

Straggly bits! To dread or not to dread!

Dreading Methods

Yup leave them alone and they'll dread on their own as they get longer. Starter methods usually fall out anyway, so that was totally normal.
