Hey everyone..
Introduce Yourself
Ya, that's ok for my son..but when mine starts getting crazy, I will need to do something about it for work.

Ya, this bar is different from the other bars they sell. It's for new dreads. They have liquid soap as well though. The products this site promote look awesome, but Knotty Boy is literally right here in Vancouver, Canada where I live, so it's cheaper and convenient for me. From what *I* can tell..if I just stay away from their wax, it should be ok. I'm mostly wondering if we are better off using our aloe plant to neaten up our dreads, or KB tightening gel.
Could I ask for advice about my son's new dreads then too? :D They are starting to look really shaggy already. He has had them in exactly one week, and just gave them their first gentle wash with knotty box starter bar of soap. Afterwards he did a touch of palm rolling with a small amount of aloe from our plant. It sure seems like ehe has alot of loose hairs already though...I will post pics from when it was first done...and pics from yesterday before he washed. Where do we go from here? He was told to come back for a maintenance appt in 3 months time, just like I was. (First and Last pic are the day they were done)
Also wondering how you feel about the Knotty Boy tightening gel. Ingredients :Aloe Vera, Sucrose, Xanthan Gum, Hemp Seed Oil, Panthenol, Quinoa, Oats, Lime Essential Oil, Geogard® (Preservative).
Ok, thank you for all the helpful info. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.
Our dreads aren't stiff. There was not alot of crocheting done, it seemed more like a touch up type thing she did at the end. I can strip the wax. I'm a little upset that the interlocking is so damaging. I wonder why it was done. Will it prevent my new growth at the root from locing up in the future? I wish there was a way to undo that. So from this point on...strip the wax and just make sure the sections stay separated? Oh, and definitely none of our dreads are over an inch, not even close.
The description says "naturally breaks down and washes out gradually with every hot, steamy shower when not reapplied"
Ingredients are: Beeswax, Castor Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Hemp Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Kukui Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Vitamin E
It was this wax (light one, not dark)....and a super small amount. I can't tell that any is even in there and I saw how much was used out of the teeny tiny container. It's literally like just a tiny dab for my whole head. It does contain beeswax though

Thanks so much for the responses. I have been worried about where to go from this point on. I can't even tell there is wax in them. Do you think I can just not worry about removing it? Or do it later down the road if I notice it causing problems? She seriously used the smallest amount. I am definitely going to follow all of the advice given. Wash regularly, and hope it all just sorts itself out naturally. Should I use my aloe plant? I will have to appear neat and tidy for my job. My boss is very conservative...although I'm sure the dogs and cats don't care (vet assistant).
