Hey everyone..

Introduce Yourself

I'm in Canada...and here, they can absolutely "let you go" due to appearance. I have been "let go" before for having 4 piercings in each ear (and they were down on my lobe). I received 2 weeks severance pay when I submitted a complaint, and that was that...

"Dress codes and appearance standards are at the discretion of the employer. If the policy infringes upon the rights of a protected group – females, males, religious belief, disability, etc. – then there may be a breach of human rights law."

That is Canadian funds. I'm not really sure how much per hour that is. It's the time to create 40 extensions and then install them.

Yeah, I wish I could just let my hair go all crazy and run barefoot through the woods, but....I just got a new job position, new boss, and a raise. I deal with the public in a medical setting, so I need to look neat and clean. However, I can just tidy my dreadlocks myself at home with a needle (not crotchet). I have read how to do that, and it sounds like it is not damaging. I'm not worried about roots etc, mostly just having a general, overall, tidy appearance for work. If I can control the strays, and gently tie these locks into a neat bun, I will be OK, and I think I can forget about the extensions. I'm beginning to just let that whole idea go. It sounds like more hassle than it is worth right now, you guys are right. It would cost lots 'n lots of money (she quoted me $1000 for synthetic, if I want human hair I have to buy that myself on top of it), and I can imagine it adds alot of stress to the dreadlocks when they aren't fully matured. That is a very good point you guys have made. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I am sticking around the forum, but I hope I won't have to bug you guys anymore. You've all been very patient with me, and I appreciate it.

K, I'll see. I'm only a month in, and I'm ok with how they are now. If things get too sloppy though, I will have to do something. I just wasn't sure if they just do more crocheting or what. I don't know what to expect.

My hair is already dreadlocked, but I had thought of adding temporary extensions too (double or single). I think they might be too much hassle though. I'll look into it more. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a question about maintenance. She said to come for a session after 10 weeks. What should I be expecting at that appointment?

Where do you get those statistics from SE?

I've worn other types of extensions in the past (just not locks), and I've worn wigs too. It's not a big deal to me at all. I don't give a crap about hair, so I have no special "connection" to it lol. That seems silly to me. I'm a chick. I put makeup on my face, paint my nails, wear perfume and deodorant, lots of chemicals and fake stuff. There is NOTHING spiritual in this whole lock process to me. It's just for fun.

"What's the point in adding someone else's hair instead of growing my own?" Because I can :) the options are there. I just wanted to know if the website I'm considering is legit and good quality. I'm not into getting ripped off.

I totally "get" and understand what you're saying and how that works for YOU, but I am different. I have zero interest in having natural dreads that are a gazillion feet long and take the patience of a saint. To each his own right? :)

Hey everyone..

Introduce Yourself

My locks weren't created naturally. They were backcombed, tnR, crotched, with a touch of wax lol. I have been dyeing my hair for just under 30 years. I don't plan to use synthetic hair extensions like my loctician is pushing for. I want human hair. And yep...it's totally crazy...but that's who I am!!! :D I could turn around in a year or two and shave it all down and start rockin' a bright coloured mohawk (done that before, several times). My style is just a little different than yours or SE. I love your guy's locks and you have a wealth of knowledge that you willingly share, but I'm not a hippy, all natural, type of person, I just like to have fun with my hair. If something went wrong, and my locks screwed up..I'd just shave it bald (done that before too). I appreciate and respect what you are all doing spending years and years forming natural locks and they look amazing, but I will NEVER have the patience or the desire to go that route. I want dreadlocks, and I want them now. I may fall in love and keep them a very long time. I may tire of them and cut them out, I am not strongly attached to my hair :) so.....does anyone know anything about the site I posted above that supplies human hair extensions? deadlocks.com.au :) I don't want to get ripped off. It's pretty expensive.

Hey everyone..

I used Dawn. I'm honestly not concerned. My hair seems fine. I don't feel anything in it now, nor did I before. I probably should be more concerned about residue from conditioning my hair and using product the past 41 yrs. I will keep an eye on my hair and if I notice any issues from that dab of wax, I'll order your friends waxBgone stuff. Next, I'm going to break another one of your rules :P I think I'm going to get some permanent extensions. Do you know anything about the premade human hair extensions from www.dreadlocks.com.au ??? This loctician lady wants to make me synthetic ones out of kanekalon, but I'm not down with the plastic hair. ***preparing myself for the lecture from you now*** (just teasing)
