I already did. I found this site through a girl on youtube who went neglect. She cut her dreads off a while ago, but that was my first exposure to dreads immediately leading me here.

I wouldn't be able to comb it out. Since it's all halfway down, i'd just end up breaking that entire strand of hair from the hair on down.

how do you split a dread that's too big. I'm trying to split one right now that seems to have about a 2 in section but all I seem to be doing is tugging the root.

when he told me that they told him he should get maintenance between 3 to 6 months I told him that sounds like they're trying to get repeat business and he

went off on me telling me I don't know what im talking aobut

No, im not talking about hte hair line, I'm talking about the very top of my head anything from the crown forward isn't dreading at all. I don't understand why.

My hair is actually pretty thin compared to others, it's the reason I started dreading, or one of them at least. I got tired of seeing all that loose hair fall down the drain in the shower after conditioning

I went natural for bragging rights, and not overtightening at hte roots. My twin's dreads are pretty big sections and it looks like they tightened to the point where they might break at the root. He argues with

me that you are supposed to go get them maintained and crocheted for them to stay nice. I disagree. He berates me, but I tell him his dreads are his, mine are mine.

I'm no longer working at my summer job anymore.

I've been watching a ton of videos of other peoples dreads and trying to see if they all have a certain way they wear their hair, sleep, shower etc to see why mine isn't showing any progress but I've got nothing.

I'm really disappointed. It's been 8 months compared to other people I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm using dreadlocksshampoo and I use the sea salt himalayan spray by them. I wash 3x a week, sometimes 2x, when I'm really off, 1x a week minimum, I don't play with my hair at all, I just very very very very lightly brush it away from my face when I have to. I don't know what to do.

I haven't been satisfied for a good while. Anything in front or top of my head (bangs, top of head, above and around ears) is not dreading at all. You would almost guess I would be straightening my hair.

I'm also not sure on my sectioning. While workign in the fields, I was wearing a bandana and hat, not really paying attention to my hair since I was working so much and just passing out when I got home, I didnt

get to section or look at all the crazy matting on the back of my head. I have some really fat loops at the end of my hair while the middle and roots are straight and not dreaded.

Hello, I've just reached the 8 months timeline.

To be honest, I'm not  very satisfied. Any and all advice is welcome.

I left a huge photodump yesterday on my gallery, go check it out.

Dread Maintenance

i don't actually run my hands through the individual strands but I do push all of it back or just whip my head back to move it out of my face

@soaringeagle I don't understand what you mean by pushing them back with my hands

i wouldn't mind if it was just the hairline, but anything from my crown to my bangs is not dreading or doing anything at all. Its really discouraging.

Also, whats the best way to get an accurate judgement on the size of my sections, when my hair is dry, I just cant tell, it's too messy at the root and sections cross and such, if I try to split, i just might break the whole strand of hair off my head or undo all the progress ive made by ripping out the knots.
