Not sure if my dreads are even growing?

Help! Save My Dreads

I mean in not sure that's why I'm asking. Because I know they shrink & all it just seems that after a whole year they should seem to be growing noticeably. There's no shedding or nothing like that, minus the breakage but that was about 5-6 months ago. Good quote'. I'll be sure to keep that in mind, forreal.

are you for sure they arent growing? I've never heard of someones hair not growing. Are you loosing your hair (genetics) are you shedding a lot. How is your diet? Dreads are different until they get longer and heavier they don't show length. My hair seems very short until I wash them the. They areWet and heavy and I can shake them and they actually move. But.. Reality sets in and they dry and Matt back Down..I wouldnt worry about it.. I'm sure your fine... Just forget about them.. A watched pot never boils... Keep this in mind. Happy dreading

Not sure if my dreads are even growing?

Help! Save My Dreads

To be honest, I did absolutely NOTHING. My friend did my dreads for me, he had been reading a lot on 'em, & I had no clue on the subj. but I wanted them. He told me use no product, wash whenever, & clockwise rub. I had one in the front completely fall out & the other one was starting to thin but I used the hair from the old one and other loose hairs & added it to that one to save it. The three in the back pretty much completely broke off & since then (6 months or so ago) doesn't seem they have grown much at all. Still at an inch. My dad said it may have been a lack of moisture on my scalp which probably caused them to break. I don't know. I'm giving it 'til the second year mark to see some decent results 'cause I'm getting pretty agitated with 'em y'know. & also I havent been to any salons. I've read a lot that they do nothing to help haha.

why did they break what have you done to weakrn them so much besides the stupid stuff the salonbs told you to do

hairs always growing

1/2 inch a month average

sometimes less

but the shrinking stage dont sudenly reverse to growth it slows then stalls then grows

give it 2-3 months and u will see an inch probly

but

whatever u been doing that caused em to break..stop

stop everrything but washing and seperating

ps sometimes just seperating u gain a small bit of lenghth since the roots that were bound get released

Not sure if my dreads are even growing?

Help! Save My Dreads

I've had my dreads for about 11 months now, & I am curious of the outcome thus far. I know dreads go through a shrinkage stage from anywhere between 6 - 12 months. I know it's only been a month beyond the 12, but my dreads are much shorter than when I first started, which when they were first dreaded were down to my Jasmine, about 8 or so inches. Now, they're anywhere between 4 and 6 inches. Some only 1 inch because ocf breakage, which has happened to about 5 of them, mainly in the back where my hair is straighter. I dyed three of them at the root to see if they are even growing because at this point I am pretty scared that they're either not growing or growing very, very slowly, and I honestly do not want to cut them off & start all over. When should I be expecting a noticeable growth in my hair after the shrinking stage that has already passed? Is there anyway to be sure my hair is actually growing? Am I doing something wrong, or missing something? What should I DO!? Please help, I don't want to start all over again! :/

Help With My Dread Size, Length, Width, Etc. What can I do to make my dreads look ten times better!?

General Questions

So how can I save my dreads, then?

soaring eagle said:

what do u mean fall out like v=break?

all the forcing hair into the roots has made the sections very huge

and no ui dont mean leave em alone till long enough to dread em i mean leave em a,one till they are long enough to dread themselves

your forcing hair into the roots from a wider and wider area that causes the gaps to be huge instead there should be new dreads inbetween each drad u should have twice as many if u lefft them alone

and seperating they try to combine at the rootds you need to rip em apart to keep the roots seperated

Help With My Dread Size, Length, Width, Etc. What can I do to make my dreads look ten times better!?

General Questions

What do you mean by seperate?

No, none of my dreads congo'd. The only thing that I've done with the loose hairs that were right next to the root was try & merge them with the root to thicken the root, because I've had one fall out before. But I tried that once or twice in the first few months I had them.

So what you're saying is with the small ones, just leave them as hair & don't dread them 'til they get long enough to do so?

Help With My Dread Size, Length, Width, Etc. What can I do to make my dreads look ten times better!?

General Questions

When I first got my locks done in December, they looked great. Nice size & length, & I believe I had about 30 locks. 9 months later, I'm down to 20, & I have only had one fall out. The back of my head is the worst, for I only have about 4 dreads back there, & I have a few on the top that are VERY small. In all, they're much smaller than before, & not growing, which I know the reason for that but that's not why I'm here. Hereare a few images.Lately I've been trying to decide if I should take them all out, after these 9 months of waiting for them to lock, and get them professionally done in December. I'm not sure what to do at all. I'm biracial, so my hair grows upward instead of down. It appears that I have missing hairin the back especially, & looks very bad. In all I am very concerned for the back. This is what I have, & this is what I want >>> I'm in desperate need for help on this. Getting to the point where if there is no way I can fix it, I might just buzz my hair, which is NOT what I want at all. Like how he has about maybe 25 - 30 very thick dreads? I'm content with my size, but I'm shooting for trying to get at least 30 with my size. He has no spaces on his head, where you cannot see any of the scalp. I don't have anyone I know personally do help me on this, so this site is my last hope. Help me out! I appreciate all help.

Dread Growth Problem. HELP PLEASE!

Help! Save My Dreads

Yeah but see, I knowsomeone that had shorter dreads than I, last year (October?), and their dreads are at least 12 - 13 inches long, double my length. & my father also had dreads, but his hair was more coarse than mine, & I have better hair than him, in which my hair should grow faster than his. He also used Beeswax, I don't use anything at all. So I was thinking is there something I should use in my hair or what?I know it is a patient process but I have yet to see any results as of yet. Kinda disappointing.

Hair always grows, it never stops...but as the hair is actively dreading, it is also constantly shrinking. When it finishes dreading, it will also stop shrinking. My hair was about 6 in. long when I started 15 mos. ago. Now, the hair that is still not all the way dreaded is to the middle of my back...the hair that is dreaded is at about my chin, which is about where it started (maybe even a bit shorter). So, you see, it is growing...but also shrinking about as much as it grows. That's just how it works :)

Dread Growth Problem. HELP PLEASE!

Help! Save My Dreads

Hi! I've been growing my dreads for about, 9 months now (got them mid December). I used the Twist & Rip method, and when I first got them dreaded, they were pretty close to my chin in length, a little thicker too. I know that dreads get smaller in actual size & length because that's how they form, but like I said, it's been about 9 months now, & they're shorter than when I first got them, and have not been growing at all. For the first three months or so, I wore a wool beanie to sleep so it could aid in the locking process and since then I haven't really worn it to sleep. For the first five months I washed my hair about, once a week, but I now currently wash it once every 3 -4 days. The shampoo I use is an Anti-Residue Shampoo by Neutrogena, and I use no locking products in my hair. So I was wondering, why my hair hasn't been growing at all, and how I can fix this problem? By any means. All suggestions are welcome.
