New Dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

☮ soaring eagle ॐ:

They did get crazy loopy,,  we no longer recommend the baking soda

lng term use wreaks havoc on your hair

I have heard that, though I read it after I had already done it. What would you recommend for a deep clean of dreadlocks? The water was very murkey when I was done, so I would imagine that no matter how well you take care of your dreadlocks, dirt and dust seem to still get caught in them over time.

New Dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

I recently started dreadlocks in my hair. The newest are about 3 months old and the oldest are about 4 months. I used the twist and rip method, and have never crocheted or anything. I sometimes use a sea salt solution to help them lock, but other than that I just wash them about once a week. I''ve been using Vital Goods dreadlock shampoo, but recently switched to Vicki's, and I like it much better.
About a month ago, I soaked my hair in a baking soda/water/lavender essential oil solution for thirty minutes or so because I had buildup in my dreadlocks from poor rinsing. Afterward, however, my dreadlocks became EXTEREMLY tangled and loopy. I am aware that loops and bumps are perfectly normal, and I was starting to get some before the soak, but literally right after I took my hair out and rinsed and dried it, they were crazy loopy. Any thoughts?
