Dread Maintenance

I was just coming to ask pretty much the same thing.
How often should I be using it?

Unsure on New Forming Dreads

General Questions

How big is too big?
I know Ive heard "its all about what you like and if you like how it looks it doesnt matter"
I can only imagine a lock that in a 3inch by 3inch (heaven forbid) section would be near miserable to try drying.
Also I could imagine at that point you may end up getting "tugging" making it uncomfortable because its pulling at your scalp.

If thats the case is 1 inch okay? My friend is a licensed cosmetologist, I was thinking maybe once a month going to her and having her make sure nothing is locking in larger than a 1 to 1 1/2 inch sections.
Just to clarify all she would do is separate them by hand if they are getting too large, nothing else.

Washing

Dread Maintenance

When you say you are washing it once a week do you mean with shampoo once a week, or only once a week in total.
My hair didnt really start to lock up until I stopped using shampoo completely and washed my hair with water every day before I left my house.
I havnt noticed any sweaty smell.
Water, air dry, profit?

Hey it's my 2nd day . I have no idea what should I do . Just washing with water no shampoo , towel rubbing n using salt water.

No towel rubbing brotherman, only let it air dry or shake the water out.
It can/will stop your hair or reverse any dreading that has occurred.
Towels shouldn't touch your hair when you're dreading.

yea i tell ppl if they are going to use sea salt use it about as often as the average person gets to the beach..which typically isn't very often

This leads me to a question how often exactly would you recommend using a sea salt spray if one decides to use it?

I'm curious also now, because I live very close to the beach and go quite often.

a few questions.

General Questions

Thanks sarswimmer, I had been hand drying my hair with a towel...seemed to do more harm than good as my hair seemed less matted after.

I had a feeling any sort of restrictions placed on hair would slow the dreading but I was wondering if in some cases it can absolutely halt the process.

General Questions

I searched around a little and didnt see the answers to these questions.
I am certain they are there but I dont have time to sift through it all right now so thought it would be easier to just ask.

1. I think I remember seeing somewhere on these forums that you are not supposed to towel dry your hair for "neglect". Am I just supposed to let it air dry itself and not touch it at all?
2. Is there anything I can do to my hair to make it a little more manageable while is starting to lock itself up? example when i work in my garden it keeps falling in my face/also I used to bun it at the top of my head while i sleep so it doesnt choke me out. Any alternatives that wont hinder the process or should I just man up and get used to it?

Introduce Yourself

Thanks for that link, I read through all of it on my break and the one thing that really stuck out was "The wearing of dreadlocks is protected by law as long as they are worn for religious or spiritual purposes and not simply fashion."

My boss already knows I'm a very avid secular humanist, I'm spiritual but I don't believe in organized religion nor any human Gods.
I have a feeling it might be hard for me to fight that in court if they decide to let me go.
So what means of action would I take at that point?

Insight to why she knows: I have attended the National Reason Rally every year since I've been employed, they have been nice enough to give me the week off every year for me to attend.

If there isnt much I can do about that then I will def go with tnr but I still want to go natural if you have any other insight on how I should go about dealing with my boss.
