When did your dreads reach maturity?

General Talk

Mature to me would be not loopy and beavery tail at the end of the dread- when they 'look' like dreads. I mean you saw my pictures, you can't really differentiate between the loose hair and the dreads because they are on fire with wild abandon lol

When did your dreads reach maturity?

General Talk

Hey there Dreadlies,
I was wondering when others' dread had matured as it seems to be different for everyone, what with different types of hair getting the treatment! As I have a baby, and he loooves hair I have to wear my hair up alot and I'm certain that hinders my dreads- they are 10 months and still fairly loose- not that I mind this as I know it can take a few years in some cases, and it's all about the journey....riiight. Anyway, just to feel the waters guys, when did your dreads mature, or look like dreads?

General Questions

Dude, I feel for you. I fell into the salon ( 1 time only, thank god!) and I also let my friend and myself "install" my dreads with the deadening crochet hook/backcomb combo. It wasn't anything near I thought it may be and felt quite down with my new 'locs'.. I combed them all out, all 25 of them. But I knew I wasn't going to stop there as my dread dream was there, just too much information out there makes you do silly things haha! As soon as I treated my combed hair with coconut oil for a week, I began the task of just letting it go, do it's own thing. Even when it use to get brushed was always referred to as Mad hair, now its madder, beautiful and definitely awesome! I'm 10 months in freeform dreads, I seperate once a week (on a whole) but sometimes I'll be chilling and do some work on it and wash. The last count conjured 57 dreads and they are banging!
Don't be afraid, if it is something you really want, commit to it and live the dream :P

harsh blowout

crochet and dread tools recovery

I began combing my 25 crochet dreads (18 months old) out as I was unhappy with the way the looked, felt and the annoying maintenance/or the brutal way the salon people did it (one time only) so far, I've combed 6 out and have managed to find sweet spots in all of them once you get a certain distance up the lock. I've been using a bamboo comb along with a slick of coconut oil to soften and help along the way. I did start a few months back but due to moving and trying to settle a newborn it was put on the back burner, have a baby that actually sleeps now haha so have spare time. I can get 3 done in 2 hours, without too much damage (atleast it's not as bad as cutting them out) .. anyway I'm hoping to get pictures posted in case anyone else out there is suffering this curse haha .. cheers kiddos
