HELP! I can't find an important article from soaring eagle!!

Dread Maintenance

I was wondering if somebody can help me. A couple of months ago I read a discussion started by soaring eagle where he explained that he changes the washing process after the first months to speed up the dreading process. It was a pretty long, well explained discussion about maintenance. I hope somebody can help me. Thaaank you

Peace

Introduction and a Question . . . .

Introduce Yourself

This brings up a question for me too that is similar: I going to start working as a metal worker again in about a week. Of course, I'm standing everyday in metal dust, greasy areas and lots of sweating cause it's getting hot here in Switzerland in summer. I was wondering what you would do? Cause I definitely have to shower everyday. So what am I gonna do with my dreads? Just rins them with water and wash them normally every three days?

Hello, My introduction

Introduce Yourself

yeah man go natural believe me. You'll be so happy with it after it. I went to a salon, got mine back combed but combed them all out and went natural. I have very curly hair too and you'll have dreads in no time believe me. Just go with the flow :) I'd recommend a beani maybe or some headband if you have to work. Just watch out that you tie your hair the way it dreaded, meaning tie the sections that started seperating the way the seperated. Don't just pull the headband over your hair. Have fun peace

My dreads wont stay together???

Introduce Yourself

your hair goes through a process, let them do what they want. You will rather destroy them with twisting and ripping them further. It unravels because it wants to find its own place, and once it has that done. It will dread up beautifully. I wouldn't recommend the rubber bands. They just keep your hair from moving and once you will take them away, even after a couple months, your hair will be there, still the same, cause you stopped it from moving. Leave them as they are and start sleeping on something made out of wool maybe. That speeds up the dreading process. No worries you will get there. It's very normal.

Help! Save My Dreads

Hey there

I joined this site about two weeks ago when I got dreads back combed and partly interlocked at a salon. And I don't feel comfortable with my hair anymore, because every time I look at it, I feel like I should go natural. Today I've decided to do what I should have done the first day. I'm going to comb them completely out and start over, all natural. I'm partly Shaman and mostly the feeling of not having natural dreads, but also the realisation that it takes much longer after having them back combed helped me to change my mind and start over. It's more the money I wasted that pisses me off. But I know that I've hair that will dread extremely fast.I have a few questions though, about the first few weeks. What would you guys say is the best way of drying at the beginning, until they start locking a bit and holding together? Obviously I can't just blow dry them, because I'd start over every time right? Should I just let them air dry? Because my hair gets ridiculously curly if I let it air dry. I guess that's a good thing? Or should I use a towel?

I read about this soap against wax somewhere on here. Don't you think this soap would be perfect since I don't have a lot of wax in?

Ooops! Pictures were my fault. Yeah, she gave me rubber bands but only on some tips that didn't hold. She only gave me like 10 I took them all of the first day thouhg, I knew it would be fine without. Yeah well, now the money is wasted and I don't wanna think about it :D but I'm glad I found you guys.

I don't know if my hair is oily or not. I always had head n shoulders with normal hair though, and didn't use any conditioner for years. I had never problems and beautiful, strong hair. When I used the baking soda way, I realized that they got extremely soft and almost fell apart right after the shower. Do you think I should add some more sea salt? If you have a seasalt spray, how much do you use it? You just spray a bit on it every two days or so?

Also, would you recommend wearing something in the night or just leave it lose?

Introduce Yourself

Hello everybody, I'm Jonas, 23. I did my dread locks because I got very spiritual in the past few months, due to major changes in my life. I'm on festivals almost every weekend and a traveler of life, so I loved the idea that my dreads will follow me on the my way and will later on also save all the moments and times I spent on festivals.I got my Dreads 3 days ago at a Salon in L.A. I was one of those people who believed that spending money would make it :D. Well, and it actually kinda did. I think I got lucky with my stylist or at least partly. Unfortunately, I only have a webcam yet to show you.

The handsome black lady back combed my shoulder long hair in about 4.5 hours. I noticed that she interlocked, when the hair was harder to separate. She told me from the beginning she doesn't like wax, but she'd use a tiny bit, if my hair wouldn't hold at all. Which was kinda strange to me cause why should you interlock, back comb and use wax? To my luck, she used very very little wax and only on the first 10 or so until she realized that my hair gets perfect without it. When she was done, she told me three times very specific not to use wax in any case. Also not to wash them for at least 3 weeks and after that just washing them normally every 3 days with a residue free shampoo. Of course, two days ago, right after getting them, I stumbled upon this site and was like, nooooo, daaaang I've wax in my hair. But I did a very strong bs cleans yesterday and I think I got most of it out, definitely saw the wax coming to the surface. Afterwards, most of my back dreads opened a tiny bit, but nothing extreme. She told me to dread them everyday clockwise, which I stopped though. I realized after the first few hours already that this isn't right for the hair. Of course, I'm still one of those people who looks into the mirror every hour and freaks out if one of them opened. LOL. But this forum took a lot of my paranoia already :) I guess I just gotta go with the flow.

Peeace
