I gave in to the comb . . . HELP!

Help! Save My Dreads

Jules, that's a bet well made . . . I am!

SE, right on thanks for the stories. They made me smile.

Alright, I'll be showering tonight just to get the gunk out of my hair. I think I will throw my comb away as a symbolic act. Not just to keep me from going for the comb, but because I know now - really know - that for whatever reason, I need to let go and let dread; they are already a part of me and have been, even though I have already failed in past attempts to go organic/natural/neglect.

I'll stay active promoting cannabis. I'm not here to get kids or other people smoking, but to clear up the ignorance and educate, because I believe it's the right thing to do for many reasons. My doc prescribe Methadone for my neuropathic pain (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, or RSD). Luckily, he's also pro-pot, and would rather just prescribe weed. But in my situation, we're in a game with the insurance company, so . . . you might know how that goes. If not, let me say that when it comes to insurance companies, especially Worker's Comp and a 13 year old case, it's a bull shit game, but my docs know how to game the system back.

Help! Save My Dreads

I will. should I double the BS the first wash to get rid of the conditioners? I feel like I should, then go back to 1/10 BS/water.

Thank you for the encouragement, the story, and the rap sheet. That makes me more confident, and I will certainly NOT worry about spreading my cause and helping to educate people on the legitimacy of cannabis for medical, spiritual, and recreational use.

Wish I knew this before I ruined my progress; God, nature and patience will be teachers from here on out.

Help! Save My Dreads

I regretted conditioning and combing out eight days progress immediately afterward.

But I was considering some things; it must be admitted that there are some negative associations with dreads. It may be bull shit, but many look down on locks.

Second, I am an activist for decriminalization of Cannabis; I don't want people to see dreads and wearing pro-Marijuana clothing (for the cause, not because I'm pot head or stoner) or driving with pro-pot bumper stickers and add extra suspicion to any cops who might be around and get hasseled for it.

Third, I have some damn nice hair and the longer it gets the nicer it looks.

But letting nature take over and letting it knot up like the Nazarite or Sadhu keeps sticking in my mind, and it won't go away. Now my progress - which seemed to be pretty good in the back after just eight days - is gone.

What to do? I ask myself. Something feels like its gone now, something is wrong, my depression is worsening and I can hardly bring myself to eat even a bit of plain rice.

Do I cool it with public activism for cannabis so as not to get hasseled by cops? Do I begin my locks again?

I conditioned very heavily, so if I begin again, should I double the BS and no ACV for the first wash to get rid of the oils in the conditioners?

I really need some wisdom and advice.

Dreadlock myths debunked

General Questions

I'm a hippie . . . never done acid. only natural stuff: grass and shrooms. I don't like man made chemicals; those are drugs, and drugs are bad. Nature comes from the Almighty God, and as such are NOT drugs. Grass is much healthier than shrooms, though, unless you know what you are doing and have at least one or two friends around, more if possible, and don't use shrooms at all if you are tense or anxious at the time; only trouble will come of that.

Marinol

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I don't think this really belongs here, but here goes.

My doctor has me on methadone for pain, and since I started taking it, my appetite has all but disappeared. So now he wants to increase my methadone dosages, and is talking about putting me on Marinol (he would prescribe MJ if it was legal here in Texas). I won't smoke where it isn't legal (I am Lutheran); I obey the law and await legalization here.

At any rate, anybody used/tried Marinol? Of course, there are no cannabinoids, just THC, and you can't really control the dose like you can when smoking/eating etc.

washing frequency

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for confirming it.

The hair on the back of my head is sectioning into what looks like will be nice locs, while the top/front/side are still pretty loose, but I can see where sections are trying to form and it is certainly tangly. I don't want to touch it too much right now so it can do its thing, with the wind, my pillow, etc.

It's only been 5 days but it looks like progress to me! Wish I had a camera other than my cell phone.

washing frequency

Dread Maintenance

Answering my own question, it sounds as if washing every other day during the week (at the beginning stage at least) will be fine. I am more likely to wash once or twice a week though; my scalp has dramatically decreased its sebum production, so that makes sense to me . . . I would just like some confirmation of this. I know that once I start knotting up and dreads begin to form, I will need to wash less and less frequently to allow them to dry completely and avoid mold.

Can anybody confirm this?

Is Mon / Wed / Fri too frequent? I washed last Fri and again today. I'm not sure whether "every 2-3 days" means "days not washed" or "every second or third day". I just need a little clarification. Being disabled, bathing is a chore, so I tend only to wash when I've been to physical therapy gym on M/W/F (typically). For the last 9 or 10 months, I've tended to bathe only once or twice a week (no, I don't let myself get smelly), there times max.

Peace

BS/ACV amounts

missed that somehow. I thought it was 3 tpsp, but thought it sounded a little high, looking at the link you gave (a very good link, that).

Peace

BS/ACV amounts

Dread Maintenance

thanks, Barrellady. Last attempt at this I put it into a 32 oz spray bottle for ease of use. I think I used 1 or 1.5 tbsp sea salt . . . does that sound right for the sea salt spray?

you all are awesome :)
