Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have had issues with dreading my hair in the past. I had about 10 inches of long locs, but for some reason they would not form. A year later, I am again on this journey with about 5-6 inches of hair. I went to a local guitar shop and met a guy with awesome dreads. I asked him basic questions about dreads. He told me to not use Dr.Bronners until my dreads have matured. He said to wash my hair as soon as it felt oily or dirty. I looked online and saw that many who have just started their journey are using Dr.B. I wait 3 days to wash my hair, but by the first day I have not washed my hair, it is already oily. Could my oily head have to do with a slow dreading process? Would I have to wash my hair everyday to have nice locs? Which shampoo should I switch to if Dr.B is not the way to go for the first few months?

Help! Save My Dreads

Thank you all so much for your help! It cleared up a lot of things for me! I am truly encouraged by all of you! It is hard living in a town where a lot of younger teens are into dreads right now. They are doing TnR and keep tightening them. They also tend to put threads in the same day they get them. I feel a little discouraged by their lack of information and I do not want to take that same route. Thank you!

Help! Save My Dreads

Tomorrow it will officially be 3 months with my (soon to be) dreads! I am just a bit concerned that they are not growing properly. They have gotten more loose and I do not know if that is normal. A few people offered to tighten them up, but I am not sure if that is a good idea. I just want my potential dreads to be healthy. If anyone has any insight or advice, it will be muchappreciated! Thank you!
