A tough week with dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

Thanks so much for your reply! It really helped me. My dreads do mean a lot to me, and have already taught me a lot. They help me because I used to be really obsessive about my hair looking good all the time. They force me to let go and embrace my natural self! No matter if I don't think I look good with them some days I won't take them out. They're too much a part of me now. Your story with your dreads inspired me a lot (::

A tough week with dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

This past week I've had to fight the urge to brush out my dreads. They just haven't been looking the way I want them to, and my bangs are at a really awkward length and lay weird with my dreads. Anyway, I'm not brushing them out! No worries. I'd regret it so much if I did. I'm just now at 6 months so I know I just need to be patient and let my hair do its thing. Has anyone else had days/weeks like that?

Imperfect sectioning

Introduce Yourself

Everyone seems to have like 50 or more dreads and I just have 32. Kinda makes me feel out of the loop sometimes!

Imperfect sectioning

Introduce Yourself

I'm not really worried about them being the same size. I'm more afraid of some being too thick, and having them cause issues. I didn't really word it right.

Imperfect sectioning

Introduce Yourself

Thanks man. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one with gnarly sections. That's the beauty of natural dreads, they teach you to be less worried about neatness.

Imperfect sectioning

Introduce Yourself

I have about 32 dreads total, I have some sections that are about an inch at the scalp, maybe a little larger, then some that are about the size of a dime at the scalp. I just don't want it to look weird when they mature fully. I guess I'm just slightly paranoid. Does anyone else get kinda paranoid about their sections?

Natural persecution

Introduce Yourself

Thanks everyone for the replies! I was as kind as I could be to her. Fight the bad with good. I'm very proud of my natural locks, I'll never let anyone's comments make me love my hair any less.

Natural persecution

Introduce Yourself

I had a girl say my dreads are not real, and that they are "a bed for rodents" because I do not maintain them. I just find it sad how hateful people can be against natural dreads. She herself has some dreads, which she puts wax in, and maintains all the time. Little does she know she's destroying her locks, and that my "bed for rodents" are going to be beautiful mature dreadlocks someday. Has anyone else gotten such rude comments?

You don't have to do anything to make your hair lock up! It will lock on it's own. Since you did twist n rip your sections will loosen up before they start to tighten and turn into dreads. It will be kinda messy and crazy for awhile, but you learn to love the journey! Just sit back and relax and let your hair do its own thing. :)
