My BS wash experience

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Hey all! So the other day I tried out the baking soda wash for the first time before I just used a shampoo bar. I used the basic recipe I got from here http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/super-clean-dreads-safe-for . I used 1/3 bs and 1 tablespoon sea salt. The essential oils I choose to use wererosemaryclose to 20 drops, tea tree 10 drops, thyme about 10 drops now thyme is a good oil to use if your hair is oily usually everytime I'd wake up my hair would get oilier everyday but this helped alot. And lastly peppermint 3-5 drops to help stop the itch and this was also a good oil. I poured and mixed all of that into a gallon pitcher and filled it 3/4 of the way with warm water. Then I poured it all over my hair and let it soak of 30 minutes. 30minuteslater I rinsed with cold water to close my pores and trap theessentialoils. I felt so clean after that and my hair smelled great!

3 days later and I feel like its time for another wash. Now before I got to washing I noticed I had an unusual amount of dandruff( I have a small case of dandruff nothing serious). But this time around my scalp had some areas of think crusty dry flakes, gross right? I assume this is the white paste that some people have experienced and wrote about. Anyways I gave my scalp a good clean using the massage setting on my shower head to loosen and remove as much of the crust and flakes as I could and was mostly successful. What I am wondering is, is there anything I should do different so I dont get that kind of build up on my scalp? Should I add more baking soda and mix the BS in a giant bowl and just soak my head in that instead of directly pouring? If you guys have any recommendations please share them. Thanks for reading and helping me out.

Natural method and washing hair

Dread Maintenance

So I've seen posts where it is okay to wash hair when needed. I use dreadlock shampoo bar from http://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com/ and I probably wash 3 times a week on average. But my question is what is the difference between washing the scalp and washing the hair? It seems that I do not want to wash my hair but my scalp only... Hmm. Also, when doing the natural method I understand you cant comb your hair but is it okay to run my hand through my hair every now and then so it doesnt look like a complete mess when I am at work and have to look professional? Thanks for the help!
