Scalp help

Dread Maintenance

I use cold water for the mixing the bs - 1 tablespoon per cup of water place in a squirt bottle and squirt onto my head over a bath tub, rinse with cold water then poor 1 tablespoon acv to 1 litre of water, let it run off over the tub, give a gentle squeeze, wrap towel to absorb as much water as possible, then outside in the sun till they are dry. they are fairly thin with average size of a pencil but still very loose , just starting to knot up at this point. wash and the rinse, have had a good check for bugs ( was my first thought with 5kids in the house lol). I'm not aware of any allergies, but I have had eczema problems in the past but not for ages now. When I got the lock shampoo sent I also got a bar sent too so will try that nextThanks

Scalp help

Dread Maintenance

Hi everyone,I have 8 week old dreads, started twist n rip but they fell out and now just going natural. I have been using bs/acv wash and the just for dreads shampoo recommend here. I wash every 2-3 days or so. I tie them back loosely with a band just when I need to go out otherwise I try to leave it down and loose most of the time. My problem is my scalp is so itchy, it's been getting worse and worse and now it's full of scabs and sores and the itch is getting even worse.I have scoured the site for help, have tried the peppermint, tea tree, lavender and rosemary oils in rinses. I live in south Australia and its been hot here so have been throwing a bucket of cold water on them when it gets to bad but am worried with the cold wet winter coming that I won't be able to do this to often for fear of rot.Help any more suggestions, am I doing something wrong? I really love my dreads but might have to take them out if this itch doesn't stop. Thanks Dell

Help for newbie dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Ok I have 1week old dreads that I started by TnR about 2-4 inches, my hair has about 20-23 inches long, and I am now letting it dread the rest up naturally, I am now into that loose at the roots fuzzy messy stage. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to do my hair, I have some specialist dr appointments for my children and dinner at a fairly formal restaurant in the next couple of days and the birds nest look just won't cut it for either. A hat won't work because its 35-40 Celsius/95-104 fare height here at the moment any suggestions help!!!!!ThanksDell

Fringe help needed

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I am just preparing to start my dread journey. I have fine straight hair about 21-23"in back and about 15" in front, I'm thinking thin dreads. I am a short round teddy bear figured 42 year old woman, and was just trying to decide whether to leave a combed fringe or dread the whole lot. Any thoughts from anyone,TaDelldgm

dreads...

Introduce Yourself

Hi I too have wanted them for ages and I am just beginning my dread journeyI did make Thin dread yesterday TnR just to see. I was going to have a friend micro braid my whole head so that it was sectioned the way I want it then I was just going to take them out one at a time and TnR them so I will be very interested to see the comments on back combing versus TnR.Lots of people tell me to jus go natural but I have very long thin hair (waist level) and feel I need to start them so there is some order to my hair for everyday life, I to feel that my hair needs a kick start to dread because if I just leave it I ended up with a basketball size birds nest (tried not doing nothing on the weekend - general response from the kids and hubby " you really can't plan to leave the house like that!" No order at all, no separate locks just birds nest mess) lol.I hope your dread journey is an enjoyable one and look forward to reading the other responses you get

Introduction and newbie questions

Introduce Yourself

hi everyoneI'm new here and already I love this site. I have spent the last few days pouring over the net looking for information on dreadlocks and getting rapidly more confused by the minute till I arrived, here.I am a mum to 5 from Adelaide Australia. I have always like dreads but have never quite been game to try them. Well I decided to go for it.I have very fine straight long (ranging from 15-23 inches)hair. So here is my plan, I would love to have some input from you all.Firstly I am starting to wash with bicarbonate and apple cider rinses.Secondly I have a friend coming around in the next few days to separate my hair and put it into micro braids. Just to make sure i am happy with the placement and size i am planning on. then gradually i will take the braids out and twist and rip them into the beginning of my dreads. Then I will just let them go for it with minimal interference just bs/acv washes.I suppose I should add that the micro braids is just to give me a chance to test it out for size and style before it really knot my hair - yes I am a bit of a control freak lol.Ok people's let me have it - share you wisdomThanksDell
