Uh... sebum.

Help! Save My Dreads

Ok I know this is gross but apparently sebum is a fact of life, and it likes me. I don't have dandruff or a dirty scalp but I have minor issues with itching every once in a while and now that someone has mentioned what sebum is, I think I have found my culprit. I have been advised on how to fix this problem, but I am 2 precious weeks into my natural dread journey and sebum is making a home in my roots. I don't want to have to start all over, so does anyone have any ideas on how to get it out of my hair/roots? It seems really ucky to me and I like to stay clean, so it bothers me...

t.i.a.

Does it matter which way you twist?

General Questions

It matters **if you are going to keep twisting them**, I think. Why? Because you may lose track of which ones were twisted clockwise and which were twisted counterclockwise and then you may untwist some of them. I personally would twist only to separate and then leave them alone from there, let them do their own thing.

Vegetarian Food Allergies?

Dreads and Diets

Ephedrine pen... it's a needle pen you stick into your body, usually your leg, that triggers adrenaline to fight the allergic reaction. [I'm not sure if the (?) is bc you don't know what it is or how to spell it... please don't take the wrong way haha] So Benadryl won't work beforehand? :(

Even better, maybe you could try what others have suggested and check out locally-grown and organic foods. :) It very well could be that they won't contain pollens you're allergic to [if indeed it is the pollen], or there could be a pesticide problem. Mostly I've heard of this happening with food pollen allergies.

food pollen allergy is a term i came across while researching it. ive never really talked to a doctor about it. as far as benadryl, we are great friends. but only after the fact when my throat is threatening to close do i start swigging from the bottle. ive mostly learned to avoid the ones that affect me the most. but my mom is swearing i need an eppi-pen (?). @Makyea im not sure i have. but thats an idea! thanks!

Amy it looks like there's a food pollen allergy. :( Unless I'm totally wrong? You know better than I do lol. Here's a link I found from the Mayo Clinic:

Food Allergy

I am sorry your allergic to so many things you like to eat! I have a friend who is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, and pears.... it's a pain finding things to bake for her. heh. What have doctors told you? I don't know if it would be, but has anyone mentioned a dose of Benadryl before eating one of those fruits/veggies as an option?

Sorry, that's what I meant: how long will it stay fresh? Lol Thanks :D

It depends how often I eat it. Haha. But it will keep for a couple of weeks because the oil preserves it. This is the recipe I use and it's amazing and really easy to make: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/double-tomato-bruschetta/detail.aspx

Whenever I make it as an appetizer for family gatherings I always get rave reviews. :)

How long does one batch last for you? I LOVE tomato bruschetta but I've never made it before. :)

My favorite vegetarian snack is tomato bruschetta. I just keep some of the topping mix (plum tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, garlic, olive oil and balsamic vinegar) in the fridge and just top some toast with it when I feel like munching and sprinkle it with cheese. :)

What is your favorite vegetarian meal?

Dreads and Diets

I have just recently changed my diet to vegetarian.... [I mean like a few days ago recently lol] the best thing I have had so far is a bean, rice, cheese, and salsa burrito. And it was store-bought. I think I am going to have to attempt my skills at home made flatbread. I looove pitas and feta cheese! :) But everyone else's favorite meals look really yummy, too!!

I found a really yummy-looking turkey-pumpkin chili recipe that I wanted to try, I think I'm going to have to try to find some tofurkey or something now. :) There's a really good quinoa chili recipe, too, if you want to try your hand at that.
