Straggly bits! To dread or not to dread!

Dreading Methods

Hi guys :)

It's been a while since I've posted, my baby dreads are coming up to a month old now! So excited! I am loving every step of this journey!

I have a quick question. I used the twist and rip method, and my hair is just past chin length naturally, which has been fine for the most part. However, almost the entire bottom layer of dreads on my hairline fell out within the first week! Eep! I appreciate that this may be because the hair is too short.

Should I leave these bits to grow for a while before I attempt to dread them again? I'm already leaving them to their own devices, so to speak. I haven't brushed the loose hair for over a month now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

x

Yay, little dreads! The front ones are really starting to harden up.

Ahhhhh, loose hair!

Tea tree??

Dread Maintenance

I need to go to the store to pick up some ACV :) Thanks SE! I'll cut down on the tea tree haha! I've got some lavender and some rosemary too, will either of those be better?

Woo! Thank goodness :) I know baking powder is BAD, but I wanted to check about the bicarbonate before I went hell for leather. Or lather...

Thanks guys!

Thank you Britany!

I just didn't want to damage them :D will stick with the baking soda wash! Do you know if bicarbonate of soda is the same thing?

Tea tree??

Dread Maintenance

Hi everyone.

Quick question. I have been using a handmade green tea, water and tea tree spray daily on my baby dreadies. I only put a few tiny drops of the tea tree in, but my hair seems to be getting dryer and dryer by the day! I washed it yesterday with baking soda and a lush bar for the first time, after 5 days, and the ends look a little frayed. Could it be the tea tree that is causing this? Can it dry out your hair? Or am I just being neurotic...haha.

x

Hi Baba,

Thank you for your response! I have only dreaded the front part of my hair so far, gathering a troop of helpers to help with the back! :)

I have stopped using the sea salt and lemon spray altogether now, will only use it when I can wash it out, thank you for the advice! I was not aware that the salt needs to be got rid of!

Thank you Britany! :) Yeah, I did make up a spray with sea salt and lemon juice, but I was worried they would get too dry so I've started using a green tea and tea tree spray instead. The green tea bags have lemon in them too apparently, but not nearly as much.
