Welcome. The first time going natural probably turned out like that because you didn't separate enough. That'll do it.

As for crocheting... It's worse than wax. Eagle's right. Crocheting breaks hairs into smaller and smaller pieces every time it passes through your lock. It weakens your locks and can cause them to snap off in places, and even at the root leaving a bald spot.

jamaican gel is for african hair only definately dont use it

its up to u wether or not you go natural tnr or backcomb but ill say naturals the best way tnr next best backcomb barely makes it out of the never recomended category its damaging but nowhere near as bad as say crochet or felting

the best way is to just ler t them dread but nit everyones willing to do that so tnr is a good compromise

its gentle enough and work swell

i guarantee you wont fail this time

Hey everyone! No worries for the first post. These were ALL failed attempts at locking my hair. I was young the first couple attempts. 12 yrs old for the first batch in 2000. 2002 was freshman year of HS... And the closest I ever got to locking it up is when I braided my hair in singles first then took them out about a week later, used sea salt ONLY for about a month and tried to "clean" them up with beeswax again... And it only softened and made them puffy, greasy, and a lame mess. Now I'm actually starting with starting the same braided and natural approach TODAY and that's why ive joined... Years of trying and always failing. I purchased the Jamaican mango n lime gel well before I found this site, but it was only a couple bucks. Should I even use it?I guess the main thing I need to get cleared up here is starting them. I figured I could do the baking soda rinse, dry and take the braids out. From there should I just let them go or assist with backcombing? And I have sea salt as well... I really do not wanna ruin my head AGAIN haha... As you can tell ive wanted them for a while now. Im 25 now and I hope with maturity that my hair will reflect that.

Welcome. I hope you learned from those tries that wax doesn't work. The gel's not even necessary. The only one we've found that doesn't damage locks is from dreadlockshampoo.com. It washes out in plain water and doesn't leave any residue that other gels leave.
I hope this set lasts longer than the others. Out of curiosity, why did you start over so many times?

srry didnt mean to come off as a jerk lol just seeing all those waxes in sa row and not a set lasting over 2 or 3 years oh wait 1 might have lasted 5.. but wax dreads rarely last past that 3 or 4 years ..wax is the number 1 dread killer its a scam really

yoir hair dreads best with nothing at all in it

wax actualy prevents dreading it only glues it together to look like dreds (stiff sticky dreads) they dread way bettger and faster by just washing and nothing else

last a lifetime too

stop using the gel (unless its from www.dreadlockshampoo.com onoy gel worthwhile..but..u most likely dont need it)

use nothing..no backcombing eother

let them dread

why would u use wax in natural dreads? that dont make sence

what gel did u use?

dont ya know u need nothing? and nothing is the best thingto use...and do?

u coulda had dreads like these if u avoided all products
