Quick washing questions

Okay, so I started using black soap when I wash and I love it... but since I'm not used to using soap I want to make sure everything is right...

So, I'm supposed to be washing my scalp then letting it rinse through my hair right?

When I wash I sorta scrub really good all over my scalp with my fingertips, and it ends up getting all of my hair all mixed in... Then with my soapy hands I sorta slide over my hair. So I guess I'm actually washing all my hair with the soap. Oh, and I use tons of soap, it's a bad habit.

I don't think it's leaving any residue, but I'm paranoid... what's a sure way to tell you have even a little residue in you hair?

It's giving me tons of frizzies :) and I feel like I'm making more progress.

I know some black soap has like shea butter in it (which could be really conditioning) but mine does not. The ingredients are: cocoa pods, palm kernel oil, plantain skins.
