matted roots

when your roots start to lock up, does it come in looking like the dread or does it just feel like it is matted. kind of like dog dreads how they feel. just wondering cause my roots feel matted but have no shape to them

I have pretty loose roots so that the hair has room to dread there. Are you pulling apart your dreads to make sure that they aren't dreading together?

well they arent that old. tomorrow is my one week so i dont really have too much of that to worry about just yet i dont think. and my sections are pretty large at some points so they are far apart

how large? that mu=ight be a problem

and yiu might need to seperate often even in the 1st weeks

Separating is good. There is no "too early" when it comes to pulling apart locks because it not only helps to separate new growth but also to get all of those loose hairs from grabbing at each other in between and conjoining your dreads.
