Any tips on making hair lock up faster and grow faster?

I've been free forming for 5 1/2 months now, but I started from a taper. My hair is very short,only 3/4 to an inch in height but somewhat dreaded so combed out it'd probably be close to 3inches . I'd like to know when to expect my hair to really look like dreads and is there anything I can do to make my hair grow, or lock faster.

its unusual to se that much scalp while freeforming so not sure whats causing that

1500 mg biotin every day bi=ut ui wont see any tresult for months

Ok thank you for the tip and, I just think its because of the shortness of my hair.
