After searching the site for the proper ratio of salt to water I decided to
figure it out myself. The goal is to get the mix closest to the salinity of
the ocean; which is about 3.5% salt.
Depending on how much water you plan to use, varies how much salt you will add.
And YES you can add the salt to the Baking Soda wash.
That being said, using 1/2 cup of baking soda to 5 cups of water, we'll measure to 5 cups.
To get 3.5% salinity in 5 cups of water (or for any amount of water) you'll need to do some
conversions.
Firstly, you'll be adding 3.5 grams of salt Per 100 ml of water.
Secondly, there are 236.58 ml in 1 cup of water.
Thirdly, 5 cups of water is 1182.9 ml.
Fourth, divide the total ml , 1182.9 by 100 ml , to see how many grams to add.
= 11.829 (100) ml
Fifth, 3.5 grams per 100ml SO 3.5 x 11.829
=41.4015 grams of salt.
FINALLY: there are 12 grams in a tablespoon
so 41.4015 divided by 12
= 3.45 tablespoons (I rounded my measurement in my mix to 3 and a half)
SOOOOOO,
If your using 5 CUPS OF WATER to the 1/2 cup baking soda and want to add the salt,
add 3 and a half tablespoons of salt to the warm water mix.
If you don't want to add the baking soda and want just the salt,
it's obviously the same ratio. 3 1/2 tablespoons to 5 cups of water.
I hope this helped many of you searching for that perfect ratio!!
The conversions aren't hard! Just follow my step by step
instructions with your own amount of water if it's different than 5 cups.
And Wallahh!! Beautiful Dreading!
Peace&Love
