Should I get a trim before I start dreading?

I am starting my dreads now, using the natural/neglect method, but I have some split ends. I'm just wondering if I should go in to get a hair cut before I start so that my hair is as healthy as it can be, or if that's bad, or if it doesn't matter. Any advice?

no why split ends wont matter

but a trim will remove a months worth of growth

I really have no idea but my personal experience was that the dry split ends actually helped knot better. But that's just me.

I agree with Joey. My hair locks faster if the cuticle is a little rough and I have split ends.

You will lose alot of length due to your dreads shrinking, I wouldn't cut it. You'll moss that little bit hair when you lose inches upon inches of length!
