sectioning for dreadlocks

is sectioning necessary?

sectioning is not necessary at all dreads when you go the traditional natural route section themselves perfectly within a week or 2 typically. Then you decide whether you want to separate or allow them to combine at will.

when you decide to twist and rip or backcomb or twist to start dreads it still is not needed however you do want to try not to take hairs from the base of other dreads to put in the next dread over or you will be separating allot more.

section sizes shapes and staggering

  • section sizes- the size of the dread is determined not by the ammount of j[bhair in the dread or by the thickness of the backcombed or tnr'd dread baby but buy the root section size a thick dread is 1 inch at the base not 2 inches not 3 inches the resulting dread will be the size of a silver dollar a 2 inch section will result in a dread thick as your wrist or the fat end of a baseball bat a 2 inch dread will dry very very slowly so might mold and if 2 2 inch dreads accidently combine thats a dread the size of a muscular shoulder or nearly 1/4 of your head thin haired people tend to make massive sections to make thicker dreads then have huge gaps and dreads that will be huge when mature this is a common mistake instead thinner but more dreads will make a much more full looking head of dreads so making some as thin as a pencil (1/8 inch) others 1/4 and only a couple over 1/2 to 3/4 will have a much more full look in the end.
  • section shapes- section shapes make no difference at all triangle square random it dioesnt matter you can have 1 teardrop next to a star next to a crescent moon next to a long thin line and none will affect the overall dreads looks in the end however strict square sectioning without staggering will look like a checkerboard for the 1st several weeks.
  • section staggering- is it nesacary? no is it helpful? can be yes the thing is, whnen you have sections all linesd up in a line it adds to the manufactured look makes the showing scalp more glaring if you used strict sectioning a more natural look would have diferent sizes shapes and placements to be far more randomized and blended

when sectioning for dreadlocks rememvber that they get thicker so big can be too big

they also can congo no matter how much you try to avoid it so big can become twice as big years down the line

you can alsioo let them congo whenever so if they are thin when mature and you wantthicker let them congo

but if they are huge and tyyou wish they were thinner theres not any easy way to get them thinner without massive damage.

the most common problem with sectioning for dreads is making the sections rediculously large

sectioning or seperating/

if u section u do it once if u mean seperation u seperate as needed there should be some ripping indicating it needed seperation but not somuch its hard or painful to do u gotta let it get knotty and form some dreads bed=fore seo=perating them except in the cases when they wanna just dread up into 1 big mass then u seperate them into distinct dreads

but that usualy only happens if u keep em in a tam 24/7

if u dont have 2 already forming dreads eating eachother dont seperate if they are just ar=tsaarting to get tangled and u rip em apart u maybe ripping a would be dread preventing it from becoming a dread

let em get some form then prevent them from having an orgy and becoming 1 big ol mas of intertwined dreads
