I have pure aloe plant, but I have no idea how to best apply it. Dread by dread, just dump it on, what to do? Also, what are the after effects? Will it help tighten the roots? If not, what are some good natural ways to help tighten the roots?

you need to scrape the insides of the plant out and blend it up. It will not help tighten any part of your dreads in fact it will be a tad conditioning so use it sparingly! There are no healthy ways to tighten up your roots, your hair needs to be allowed some movement in order to continue knotting.

thanks guys! So, I put some in last night, and it did condition them, which made them feel super cuddly. They feel better maintained as well. As for the roots, my hair was super straight before, and now (about 7 months in) my hair itself is starting to kink up at the roots. So its just a waiting game for now.
