How much to dye dreads

I while ago I tried to dye my dreads like brown ,all of them but some are still black and I'm wondering how much do you need to dye dreads

lighter to darker u can just dye but darker to lighter u will have to lighten 1st

Most times when I dye my dreads I need three boxes, and my dreads are hardly past my shoulders (if that). I'd stay away with trying to lighten hair with bleaches, as you can cause serious damage and even lose dreads from the bleach remaining inside. Super hard to completely wash out.
