This morning I washed my hair and rewashed it with baking soda (and a drop of tea tree oil) to make sure it was really clean. I didn't condition it and I didn't comb it. Now, I guess the waiting begins. I'm really excited! My hair is a little crunchy so I'm guessing I didn't rinse out all the baking soda. I'll do another rinse tonight/tomorrow and hopefully it will all be out. If I'm not doing this right, please let me know. It seems so simple, so that's why I'm checking in.

Just a quesiton about washing with baking soda...I'm afraid I'm not rinsing it all out b/c my hair feels a little crunchy in spots after it dries. I'm a little worried about the rinsing process b/c I don't want to mess up what's starting in my hair (the baby dreads) but then I may not be getting out all the baking soda? Could it just be that I"m used to my hair being conditioned every wash before starting the dreads? Also, when you guys talk about Dr. bronners, are you talking about the BAR soap? Can I use that on my scalp/baby dreads?

I forgot to mention that I'm starting to see separation in my hair and I'm getting really excited! It looks like my hair may dread faster than I thought it would :) Tomorrow will be one week! I may try to get some pics up in my journal tomorrow.

the liquid bronners is best so u can dilute itbaking soda should rinse out real easy but maybe u should make it weaker?i rend to rinse mine a whole lot just to be sure but doesnt seem to need much to rinse after all the baking soda solutions the exact consistency of water.. so water should just help it flow tight out

no dont wax ever wax is a terible mistake..but nowhere near as bad ads the dreaded dread perm..if you dont go natural twist and rip it sounds like that would be better for u..but you will learn you only think u want perfect in the end your favorite dread will be the least perfect dread..the flat 1 the 1 that refusded to behave..u want dreads grow dreads if u want fake looking waxy messes just staple ropes to your head..dreads should be organic and grow acording to the will of your hairsome contril over its ok but the more u do the worse u screw em upwatch the twist n rip cvids look through all the dread pics ask ppl how they started ..but dont make any choice till u learn all u can..wax isds a huge mistake 2/3 of the dreadies here lost theyre dreads to...your freind either got locky or hes got sticky stiff gross smelling dreads that just happen to look like a dread wig (perfecft dreads)erase that thought from your mind perfect dreads are unique not fake looking... thebshields said:
Hey I am new to this... someone got me into it..

I haven't read the entire thread but I saw Dr. Bronner's be mentioned per se.

Ok. I have 7 inches and very smooth hair and thin. I want to dread.. but I want to wait until about 9 inches I don't like the look of smaller length dreads ha..

I was so stuck on the wax method because that is all I have seen for the most part. I have multiple friends with waxed dreads and they all look great. One in particular His method was backcombed with multiple rubber bands holding sections and then waxing.. He has had dreads for almost 8 years and they are tight and perfect. You would be amazed. I am.

Here is what I want to do maybe you can give me insight or email me I don't know ha. sorry.
I want to diilute (which is pouring a small amount into a jug right) Dr. Bronner's soap. for several months and see what happens. if I noticed a little bit of forming maybe I could wax a little here and there very small doses just to make them all look even(ish) to an extent.

I have seen so many natural dreads be flat and nasty looking after a year... thats my biggest worry lol... I just want them to look "perfect" I know this sounds arrogant. ugh.. I'm just so lost..

Perming sounds intriguing to.. but cost and I assume it damages the hair as well..

I'm a rookie.. you can bash me all you want... HELP ME!

thanks SE. I have a Trader Joe's version of Pure Castille Soap and after looking at the ingredients, it is a little different from Dr.Bronner's liquid castille. Thought you might have an idea whether I could use the TJ's version or if I should get the bronners?here are the ingredients for the TJs: water, potassium cocoate (derived from coconut), potassium tallate (derived from pine), glycerin, oilive oil, peppermint oil, aloe verahere are the ing from bronners:Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Mentha Arvensis*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Peppermint Oil*, Citric Acid, Tocopherolnot sure if it really makes a difference but the potassium cocoate, potassium tallate, glycerin are not in bronners and that might make a big difference...thanks for your help, you are so awesome! I've learned so much from this site and am so loving the dreading process, thanks you and all these really cool people here :) soaringeagle said:
