hey everyone, inve been dreading for 3 months now, i love it but i have a few problems and questions.around halkf my hair dreaded and locked up pretty well at this point, i started with backcombing. but the other half fell out completly, disliking the damaging idea of backcombing i decided to twist and rip the other half that has fallen out. i did it, they fell out again, and thats how its been going for about 3 weeks now, they never stay in for longer then 2 days, then i twist and rip all over again.is it bad to twist and rip half my head almost every second day???? i just want them to stay in, my hair has been long for 2years and its never knotted or dreaded naturally. so i figure i gotta help them. Also, im twisting the dread, ripping it and continuing.. i dont see how i can be doing it wrong. Maybe that most of the dreads will only rip about halfway up, and then its gets stuck.. even if the top half of hair is completly untagled. any suggestions?thanks everyone!namaste

just getting any knot in it will get it to dread and unravelings nit that big a geal it will dread in time u can add a bead near the end to make sure it staysare u twisting ripping once otr twice then retwisting before ripping again?also is it oily?redoing it all the time undoes anything that actualy happens.if u only had 1 knot in the end over time more will add on.. so it doesnt matter that u never got knots towars the roots..how olonfs it did u use any products etcmust likely u need drying out and a bead

What are you washing your hair with?If it stresses you out then you can throw beads or wraps on the sections that aren't holding. Most peoples hair that just wont knot up on it's own is usually a shampoo issue but I guess there are people with no nappy...:(

im just impatient haha, its such a mess and i want them too look good, i know it will happen one day though!not oily, i dunk my hair in sea salt water and spray with sea salt water every couple days. i wash about 2 or maybe 3 times a week with that beautiful baking soda with essential oil mix. ive been doing that for about 2 and a half months. ive checked out this site many tiems before, just never made an account.I twist, rip, twist, rip until i get to the end, and its done really tight, and looks great, then about 5 minutes later it gets really really loose and its completly untangled by 2 days

i know, but i just have soo much hair that they dont even look like dreads because so much is loose, and its been 3 months.... well some hold a little then i just leave them, but most that i have twisted and ripped come COMPLETLY untangled. i sleep with a wool hat on by the way. should i be stuffing all the hair into the hat? or is it ok that the bottom half of every dread is sticking out?? soaringeagle said:

I have been dreading for over seven months. at least a third of my hair is loose, but it is now starting to knot slowly. you really just have to wait, no amount of poking at it will do anything at all. Three months in I had no recognizable dreads. I think I even have a picture of my dread-less messy hair on my picture page.my advice: take up a hobby like crocheting or macrame. Keep your fingers and mind busy and out of your hair.

keep the crochet hook away from your dreads too! Lex said:
