Hey everyone, once again, i am starting my dread journey

I had dreads twice already, one was about 4 years ago, and i had to take them about because the sectioning was off and i was going to redread them, long story short i had to wait for my hair to grow longer to get them back in.

End of my sophomore year of highschool i added them back in and had them in for 10 months, ending up taking them out again because of the lack of support from my parents.

So here i am again, 2 years later, and its time for round 3. 3rd times the charm right?

I've battled a lot with my looks and body throughout the years and my dreads were the only thing that made me feel beautiful. I dont know why i would let some small thing make me take them out... here isnt the place to go any further into that.

Anyways, since it has been so long, i have a few questions on starting them back up!

1.) how long should i wait to dread my hair after washing?

and

2.) any advice on sectioning my own hair? i just dont trust anyone else with my hair and i sectioned them myself last time and got lucky.

Thanks guys!

Love to you all

Cassie

With mine I just kinda grabbed hair where it felt right and just went for it, since my hair wouldn't just dread on its own. So what ever feels most natural and right to you, just make sure you have a mirror to check them in so you don't get any bald spots. I had an issue with that a bit in the back, but it corrected itself thankfully!

Truer words have never been spoken, SE. I came upon this site after googling "dreadlocks salons in Philadelphia". Before coming to this site, I thought dreads were made, not grown. For instance, I used a dreadheadhq kit in high school: my mom helped section and backcomb my hair. We forced these "dreads" to stay with wax. In hindsight, these were a poor excuse for dreadlocks.

Soaring eagle has really done something special by making this site. It was refreshing to hear that no matter what hair type a person has, they can grow dreadlocks. This is backed up by the inspiring pictures that people post as they progress along their natural dread journeys. I say thank you to these people! Every one of these persons who posts a picture of their neglect method dreadlocks also has the most jaw-dropping, beautiful dreadlocks. The only pictures of dreads that I don't find so pleasing on here are the forced ones. I can usually tell the difference now by just looking at their picture. Those with natural dreads exude uniqueness, naturalism, and spirituality. Those without, well

Just out of curiosity, and after being armed with the knowledge that I had gotten from dreadlockssite, I went back to dreadheadhq's website to see what they were all about now. They still hype manufactured, waxy, and over night dreads. I took a look at what these overnight dreads look like, and they are as awkward as they are relatively hideous. Each dread looks like the other, as such each "kit fashioned dread head" looks like the next "kit fashioned dread head. There is no individuality! It's conformity in a kit/can. These "dreads" make it appear as if you have a mop on your head, as opposed to what you instinctively want on your head: beautifully and naturally grown dreadlocks. These "dreads" are a shell of dreadlocks.

As a result, it seems these sites that advertise the needing of expensive tools, kits, and methods to get dreadlocks are mostly a gimmick to take your hard earned dollars. You don't see links to dreadlockssite.com on those dread kit sites. You know why? If people came to this site, the kit sites wouldn't make a dollar. One visit to this website, and people would be thankful among refreshingly awed by SE's insightful, unbiased, and informative facts that expose the truth and history behind dreadlocks. Its also nice that he doesnt pressure you into buying dread necessities. His philosophy is quite the opposite actually: less is more.

For this insight I thank SE, for I might have never found out about the neglect method. I might have manufactured my own "dreads" via force, a kit, and/or a salon! Grateful is an understated word when talking about how I feel as a result of hearing the dreadlocks truth. It's like "Hey, this is what I've been looking for all along! This is the way to strong and healthy dreadlocks for life!" There is nothing more natural and aesthetically pleasing than naturally grown dreads. These are dreadlocks! In my opinion these are perfect dreads, not the painfully forced, dull, and mop-like "dreads" that leave your hair looking relatively unhealthy, hideous, and unnatural looking while also leaving you looking like you just washed your hair in a tub of wax

But can you blame most who use these unhealthy dreading methods? They are mostly victims due to their lack of having access to factual information about how to start healthy dreadlocks. Having a lot of misinformation on the net doesn't help either. I think people just need to hear the truth. I want to help SE get the word out and expose the truths and myths of manufactured dreads and dreadlocks in general. I am on day four of the neglect method, and I love every minute of it. My hair is actually cleaner than it was before I abandoned my comb! ;) Hopefully I can return the favor to those who inspired me by posting pictures of their journey updates. I will try to post picture updates of my journey as often as I can. I send my love, Nathan
