WELCOME 1st off, what country. the crochet was a huge mistake but if not tight or excessive it'll be fine.
the shampoo and conditioner and wash cycles not ok. (depends on if your of african decent in a minor way but not really as they tell you)
you should wash 1-3 times a week
(of i hope the roots were not crocheted tight! hit reply back with a photo maybe)
an all natural, no residue shampoo is essential. the reason i asked country is www.dreadlockshampoo.com is by far best, but cant ship everywhere anymore)
you should ditch the conditioner.
if you are able to use dreadlockshampoo the bars are best for mature dreads or african hair regardless.
if not african. the liquid will help it dread faster in the 1st year. you want it a lil dry and it has seasalt init, a swim in the ocean dreads love. (surfers have a hardtime not dreading if longer hair)
the seasalt would dry out african hair too much. on that note, african hair is often underwashed outof feart of dryness then loads of oils applied, (some wash only every couple months) however most here who wash more often find they use less to no oils. (A. Wellington on youtube or Adelle Wellington on here wrote the book on natural dreadlocks literally, and is black, washes every single day, and never uses oils at all)
i'm guessing thats why you wash every 2 weeks. also, cold not hot water (in winter.. not cold, but barely almost warm) hot water dries out the scalp and skin and hair. for removing excessive oiliness it has a purpose, and opening cuticles and pores, but then after.. cold as you can stand rinse to close pores and cuticles. sealing in moinsture.
are you planning on keeping 1/2 dreads or is it just the conditioner slowing full dread progression.
