Hi Barb, thanks for finding my post helpful. After 2 months most peoples hair is separated into sections, but some do take longer, so don't be discouraged. Let's see if there is anything holding it back at all. What are you washing with? Do you have a habit of finger combing? Are you using a conditioner? How are you using the sea salt? Best to keep that off the scalp as much as possible if you can because it can dry out the scalp, but it works great for speeding up the dreading! Try doing a sea salt soak once a week. Wet your hair first, then pour the mixture onto the hair drenching it, then leave on for 2 hours and rinse out.
It is hard waiting to see progress, but it will happen, that is where the patience comes in. Let me know about your answers for the above so we can see if something is causing the separating to go slower or if it is just natural for you......peace

so i am about a month in and i seem to be a slow dreader so far. my hair seems to be separating at the roots, but not holding the shape very wrll. bsl/acv twice a week, sea saltspray e3 times a week. open to suggestions. hoping this sounds normal!:)
Barb, you will be just fine. Many factors play into the length of the journey to maturity, anywhere form 1-2 years. Hair type, length, washing frequency, scalp type, and others play into how long it takes us. Your hair will dread just fine, and you will notice the changes in how it feels. Many surprising changes ahead. Have nor worries, you will be just fine with your journey, look how much you have learned already on how to keep them healthy....Enjoy your summer...peace
Hi Barb, you should be washing 2-3 times a week in the beginning of your journey. Although I did the twist & rip method to start off, I admit that the neglect / free form method is the best way to go right from the beginning. I have a posting that may answer many more of your questions. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/just-starting-out-what-to-expect?xg_source=activity
Welcome to the community Barb. Glad you found this fantastic site to learn all about growing natural healthy dreadlocks. The dreaducation section at the top of the site is a great place to start.
You are beginning today, congratulations. All you need to do is throw away your brush, wash with a dread friend shampoo / bar or baking soda wash & ACV rinse. Clean hair dreads faster, so wash 2-3 times a week. When you have defining sections, happens in a week or so, just check them once in awhile to make sure that they are not joining on to each other to make one huge dread, just rip them apart (best when hair is wet, it is stronger then). That is all you need to do to grow your dreadlocks.....You must have learned a ton of patience over your motherhood years, this journey will teach you even more.....peace
