welcome i wouldnt bother towl rubbing at all for 2 reasons 1 it just creates a general knotty mess that then needs to be ripped apart into dreads and 2 u need more length b4 it even begins to dread so if your rubbing your creating a dreazd helmet as some call it thats too short to rip into dreads so u end up with 1 giant dread also would not wash with just water either clean hair dreads best
just switch from standard shampoos to non residue dread freinfdly ones or the baking soda deep cleanse
your hair will dread as it grows in but you might comcider wether to seperate or let them foerm as they wish
your lucky your hair type will dread far shorter then average so a couple months u will see baby dreadies piping up all over

id use eit5her dr bronners the bar soap in our shops here or baking soda baking soda you dont scrub so its extra gentle, but it can make hair extra soft toou might want to do sea salt sprays too
