This is the first time i have ever heard of root rubbing as a starter method. The important thing is...for you to be happy with your dreads. If combing those out and restarting makes you feel better, then that is exactly what you should do! Good luck !

Well, Root rubbing may have caused that, But part of it also might just be sleeping on it, and tying it back I'd have to see what you mean If you're happy with the taking them out TNR Then go for it. If you're sure it was from the rubbing Then post a discussion on what it caused

Wow i just saw your 3 month picture and thought i would check out what you have been doing to get them to progress so quickly...then i saw your comment about zig zags and combing them out. You just combed out the best dreads...the ones that were progressing the most. They were the closest to maturity. your dreads are supposed to loop and zig zag. You are supposed to lose length as your hair really knots up and forms dreads. I lost over a foot of length in the first year. My hair was to my lower back then it shrunk all the way to above my shoulders. It is perfectly normal. That is what happens when your hair is dreading. Also I am confused about what you are calling root rubbing. Root rubbing is a form of maintenance not a starter method. I think you might mean back combing. Root rubbing is bad, you grab an existing dread between your fingers at the root of the dread. you move it in circles against your scalp. Some people think it is a good idea to do this to get new growth in a dread to knot. It actually causes friction and can break hairs. But root rubbing is only done at the root, not on the whole dread.
